Help Jake From State Farm Lower His Premium ❤️🐴
Like the commercial says, Jake from State Farm is here to help lower your insurance premiums. Unfortunately, our Jake needs a little help lowering his own.
Jake is a young gelding with a kind heart, a willing attitude, and every indication that he wants to be a good partner for someone. Unfortunately, pain has stood in the way of his success.
Before coming to us, Jake struggled with severe bucking issues. His previous owner sought veterinary care and was told he had navicular disease, leading him to be sold as a non-riding horse. Later, Jake was sold to us as a riding horse, and when he arrived, it quickly became clear that something wasn't right.
We invested in a thorough evaluation with a lameness specialist, determined to find answers instead of assumptions. The good news? Jake was not diagnosed with navicular disease. The bad news? We discovered inflammation in the bursae of his front feet and, more significantly, kissing spine with bone remodeling.
For those unfamiliar, kissing spine is a painful condition where the vertebrae in a horse's back touch or overlap, causing chronic discomfort and often resulting in behaviors that people mistakenly label as "bad" or "dangerous." In reality, Jake wasn't being naughty—he was trying to tell us he hurt.
We have already begun addressing the issues in his feet, and he is showing improvement. But the next step—giving Jake the treatment he needs for his back—is beyond our financial reach.
We had a choice. We could sell him, pass the problem to someone else, send him to a rescue, or risk him eventually ending up in a situation where his future is uncertain. Instead, we chose to fight for him.
Because Jake deserves more than being defined by his pain.
Anyone who has met Jake knows he is intelligent, gentle, and eager to please. Underneath the discomfort is a horse with a solid foundation and so much potential. We truly believe that if given the opportunity to receive proper treatment, Jake can go on to live a comfortable, productive life and become the horse he was always meant to be.
