Many years ago, when I was a teenager, maybe around 16 years old, someone (I am unable to recall who it was) told me at some Birthday Party that I looked like Marisa Tomei.
Quite a few people agreed with her (who were standing around her). Relatively speaking, I was still adjusting to American culture from Europe, so I was still discovering cultural concepts here in the US.
I smiled and said, just ainvayi (just because to be polite, I suppose)—“Thank you. So kind of you to say.”
Though, the truth is, I had absolutely no idea whatsoever who Marisa Tomei was. Was she an Olympic Champion, a Princess, an Actress?
I also had no idea what she looked like, if she was pretty or short or tall or anything.
And, at the time, we had no access to Google and an iPhone or anything like we have today. I had no desire to ask anyone who Marisa Tomei was, as then that would make me look like a do**us. Haina. 😜😜😜
What to do?
So, believe it or not, I went to the library and researched about her from good old Microfilms and Britannica Encyclopedias.
“Oh, so she is a Hollywood actress and a movie star who won Best Actress at the Oscars for “My Cousin Vinny”. Before which, she was on the American sitcom, “A Different World”.
When I saw her picture, I thought:
“My..my…She is very cute and pretty and charming. Well, those girls at the party were complimenting me, I suppose.”
But to be honest, then, and even now, I am unable to see the resemblance between Marisa Tomei and me (when we both were younger).
She’s beautiful, of course, but our features are completely different.
Maybe those girls saw something in me that evening at the Birthday Party that I am unable to see (even to this day)…😜😜😜
Regardless, Marisa Tomei looked gorgeous then, and now, being in her 60’s, she has truly aged so beautifully and naturally and organically like fine w**e. 🍷🍷🍷
Such a gifted actress and spiritual being she be. God-Goddess bless her, eternally…
