There is a reason people have been putting mountains on their bodies since before recorded history. The mountain does not move. It does not negotiate. Every tradition that has ever looked up at one has concluded the same thing, that whatever is up there is closer to something true. This one brings the whole landscape, the descent from peak to river to bloom, the full arc of a place that asks nothing of you except that you show up small.

The tiger descending the mountain, full back, the body coiling from shoulder to lower back with the ink-wash rocks and mist giving it the feel of a Edo period screen painting. The face close up shows why it works, the eyes and the open mouth carry the whole thing. Classic subject, executed in the tradition it belongs to.

Retro space age done right. The rocket straight out of a 1950s pulp cover, the little astronaut giving a thumbs up at the ankle, a ringed planet in pink and green floating above it all. The whole thing reads like a love letter to the era when space was still pure imagination.

The fenghuang, the Chinese phoenix, covers three quarters of the back. Not the Western bird of fire and resurrection but the Eastern one, harbinger of prosperity, appearing only in times of peace and virtue. Green tail feathers sweeping low, kanji rising from the flame below, clouds framing the wings above. Scale and intention matched.
