Happy summer from Niche Hand Surgery and Orthopedics. A quick slip on the pool deck or a hard landing on the tennis court can leave you with a sprained wrist. Knowing the basics helps you act fast and seek treatment early to give you the best outcome.

โ€ข A sprain stretches or tears the wrist ligaments, usually after a fall on an outstretched hand
โ€ข Typical signs are sudden pain, swelling, bruising, and trouble gripping or rotating the wrist
โ€ข First-line care is rest, ice, gentle compression, and a splint
โ€ข See a hand specialist if pain is severe, the wrist looks crooked, or you still cannot move it after a few days. An X-ray may be needed to rule out a fracture. Sometimes, more advanced imaging like an MRI is needed to look for a more serious injury.
