Hey Companion Care family, how would you like to see some interesting cases?
This is Kiki! Kiki is a sweet, adorable, 9 year old terrier mix who weighs 11 pounds. She came to us in July because she was having accidents in the house, urinating more frequently than normal, and had some blood in her urine. Dr. Simensen could feel something in her belly, and an x-ray confirmed her suspicion: poor Kiki had some big bladder stones! We made sure Kiki was healthy enough for anesthesia and surgery, then she came in for a procedure called a cystotomy. Dr. Simensen removed those bladder stones, and Kiki began the road to recovery. The stones were shipped to a lab in Minnesota for analysis, and now we know what diet to recommend to help make sure Kiki doesn't get more bladder stones in the future.

People are more prone to kidney stones, which can cause tremendous pain as they travel from the kidney to the bladder. Dogs don't often get kidney stones, but can have stones form in their bladder, sometimes due to an infection, a genetic predisposition, or a liver disorder. They can cause discomfort, inflammation, UTI, and bloody urine. In male dogs, a small bladder stone (or stones) can get stuck in their urethra, which is an emergency situation if they are unable to urinate.

We are so happy that we were able to help Kiki feel better!
