We kicked off our Jump-Start program this week with an acceleration focus that quickly turned into a few competitive games.

Each athlete completed a movement screen and baseline testing before training. One of the common things we noticed right away was limited ankle mobility and tight adductors. When those areas are restricted, it makes it harder for athletes to get into the positions they need to accelerate effectively.

Sometimes natural ability can mask movement limitations for a while, but long-term speed development always comes back to the same foundation: mobility first, then power.

Great group to start the cycle. I even jumped in and participated for a few rounds.

We’ve been having a lot of conversations lately about the benefits of resistance training.

It’s not just about building muscle. It’s about control, coordination, and awareness of where your body is in space.

A single-leg RDL is a great example. It looks simple, but it demands balance, hip stability, posture, and focus. You have to slow down and own each position.

If we don’t train these qualities, we lose them. Stability and coordination fade when they aren’t challenged. Strength work helps you move with confidence and stay capable long term.

High intensity without technique is wasted effort. High intensity with sound mechanics is where progress happens.

On acceleration day, we use a hurdle behind the back leg to teach better leg drive and shin angle. It forces athletes to push instead of popping straight up.

After a few simple adjustments, our 10-yard times improved by an average of two tenths – one athlete dropped four tenths. Not perfection. Progress.

When they stopped chasing the clock and focused on mechanics, the times improved again – and they figured that out themselves.

Process over outcome.

We know stepping into a gym can feel intimidating and unfamiliar, which is why coaching, guidance, and accountability are at the center of what we do. New members can start with one-on-one On Ramp sessions or join our 4-week Momentum class. The next Momentum round starts next week.
