✨ TMJ pain isn’t always just about the joint.
New research is highlighting something we talk about often at Hello Myo: how your mouth functions matters.
A recent pilot study looked at adults with muscle-related TMD and orofacial myofunctional disorders. Following orofacial myofunctional therapy, participants showed significant improvements in:
• TMJ-related pain
• Mouth opening
• Tongue mobility
• Quality of life
Why does this matter?
Your tongue, jaw, facial muscles, breathing, chewing, and swallowing are designed to work together. When those patterns aren’t functioning optimally, addressing function may be an important piece of a comprehensive approach to TMD.
And I LOVE seeing more research being published on the role of myofunctional therapy in adult care. 🙌
If you’re dealing with jaw tension, facial muscle pain, clenching, or other TMJ-related symptoms, there may be more to the story.
