Behavior is communication — and big emotions, meltdowns, and "big behavior" are often the visible tip of a nervous system that's tipped into fight-or-flight and doesn't yet have the tools to bring itself back to calm on its own.

A dysregulated nervous system can't be reasoned or punished back into regulation; what it actually needs is co-regulation — the calm, steady presence of a regulated adult, which helps the child's own nervous system learn, over time, what settled feels like and how to find its way back there.

This is also why we look at kids' nervous systems directly: when the neuro-spinal system is clear and functioning well, the body has an easier time moving through stress and returning to baseline instead of staying stuck in that activated state.

When we shift from "what's wrong with my kid" to "what does my kid's nervous system need right now," everything softens.

Swipe through this one — we think every parent needs to hear it.

"My tummy hurts" before school might be more than nerves — it might be your child's nervous system asking for support. 🎒

Stress and anxiety don't stay in the mind; they show up in the body, and the gut is one of the first places kids feel it.

Rather than dismissing it, we love using these moments as an invitation to check in on the whole nervous system.

Whether it's from a C-section, another surgery, or an old injury, scar tissue doesn't just sit there quietly — it can create fascial tension that pulls on surrounding structures long after the wound itself has healed.

Fascia is a connective web that runs throughout the entire body, so tension in one area, like a healing incision, can create restriction and compensation patterns well beyond the scar site itself, sometimes affecting posture and nervous system communication in ways that aren't obvious at first. As scar tissue forms, it tends to lay down in a denser, less organized pattern than the surrounding tissue, which can make that area less mobile and cause nearby muscles, joints, and nerves to compensate for the restriction.

Over time, that compensation pattern can travel — a C-section scar can influence hip and low back mechanics, and a shoulder surgery scar can affect neck and upper back tension, simply because everything in the body is connected through this fascial web.

This is exactly where chiropractic care can help. Alongside gentle, specific adjustments to support nervous system communication, we also use hands-on tissue mobilization techniques to help release restriction directly at the scar site and along the compensation patterns it's created — helping the surrounding fascia move and glide the way it's meant to again.

This is something we love assessing, especially for postpartum mamas healing from birth, since scar tissue is such a common and often overlooked piece of the postpartum recovery picture.

Your body remembers everything it's been through, and deserves support.

6am wake-up, back-to-back meetings, snack negotiations, bedtime chaos — a working mom's nervous system is ON the entire day, and most of us never notice it happening.

Every deadline, meltdown, and unread email nudges your body toward a sympathetic "fight or flight" state, and when that state never gets a chance to switch off, your body starts running on stress hormones instead of rest and recovery.

Over time, that chronic activation can affect sleep, digestion, mood, and how well you bounce back from everyday demands.

This is why at Anew Family Chiropractic we are passionate about helping moms, especially the workingmom, and why regular care isn't a luxury — it's a way of giving your body permission to actually regulate.

We all have "that side" we default to when carrying a kiddo — but consistently favoring one hip creates asymmetrical loading on your spine and pelvis, and your body compensates for that imbalance every single time you do it.

When you carry weight on one hip, your pelvis tends to hike up on that side while your spine curves in the opposite direction to keep you balanced, which means one set of muscles is working harder to stabilize you while the other side stays comparatively underused.

Over months and years of repeating that same one-sided pattern, day after day, it can gradually shift how your pelvis sits at rest, how your spine holds its natural curves, and how evenly your muscles are working on each side, even when you're not carrying anything at all.

Your nervous system is constantly adapting to compensate for this asymmetry in the background, which can quietly build tension you don't notice until it shows up as something more noticeable, like recurring low back or hip discomfort.

Save this reminder to switch sides more often — and if you are tired of moving baby from hip to hip and can't get comfortable, we invite you to see how our office can support you.

That cute w-sit? It's actually telling us something about core stability and midline crossing. 👀

As babies grow, they naturally move through developmental patterns — rolling, cross-crawling, pulling to stand — that require the left and right sides of the brain and body to communicate across the midline.

When a child consistently w-sits instead of sitting cross-legged, or army crawls (dragging the body forward) instead of true cross-crawling (opposite arm and leg moving together), it's often a sign that this cross-body communication isn't yet as efficient as it could be. Both patterns tend to show up when the core and hips are compensating for less-than-ideal stability, letting the body take the "easier" path instead of building the strength and coordination true cross-lateral movement requires.

Why does this matter? Cross-crawl patterns are how the brain builds those early left-right communication pathways — the same pathways later involved in things like coordination, reading, and focus.

Catching and supporting these patterns early gives a developing nervous system the best foundation to build functional movement on.

If you are noticing your child w-sitting, army crawling, or any other development pattern you don't feel is correct, we would love to show you how chiropractic can support your child through all phases of growth and development.

A calm, beautiful birth story and a stressed baby nervous system aren't mutually exclusive — and that surprises a lot of parents. 🤍

Even in the gentlest births, baby's body absorbs significant physical forces simply moving through the birth canal — compression, rotation, and traction on the head, neck, and spine that every baby experiences to some degree, regardless of how smoothly the birth went.

This isn't about anything going "wrong"; it's simply what the birth process asks of a tiny, still-developing body. That physical stress can show up afterward as difficulty settling, a preference for turning the head one direction, trouble feeding on one side, or a nervous system that seems to stay a little more "wound up" than expected.

That's why we love checking newborns early: a gentle, non-invasive scan lets us see how their neuro-spinal system is adapting to life outside the womb, so we can support that transition from the very start.

Nobody tells you that healing isn't just physical — sometimes it's emotional, and it can catch you off guard. 💛

Fun fact - Dr. Meghan specializes in emotional adjusting and Neuroprocessing to help release trapped emotions.

As the nervous system releases stored tension and stress, it's not uncommon for emotions to surface right alongside physical shifts.

This is your body's innate intelligence doing exactly what it's designed to do: process and release.

If you've ever felt unexpectedly tender, teary, or lighter after care, you're not alone — and it's not something to fear.

We check healthy kids all the time — and here's why.

Chiropractic care isn't about waiting for symptoms to appear; it's about making sure a child's neuro-spinal system is clear and connected so their body can adapt well to everyday stressors, and childhood brings a lot of those: falls off the playground, growth spurts, hours hunched over screens or in a classroom desk, and the emotional load of big feelings they're still learning to process.

Every one of those stressors is something the nervous system has to register and adapt to, whether we notice it or not.

Think of it as proactive care for the nervous system, the same way regular checkups support the rest of the body, rather than a reaction to something being wrong.
