PENINSULA HOSPITAL TO BE KNOCKED DOWN, SITE WILL BECOME NEW "AFFORDABLE HOUSING"

FAR ROCKAWAY -The former Peninsula Hospital Center that served the Rockaways for over 100 years overall will be demolished in 4-6 weeks according to reports.

The Arker company and the Northeast Brooklyn who purchased the closed hospital will be knocking down the beloved hospital for new "affordable housing". The apartment building(s) will be across the street from a crime ridden projects in Edgemere. This is apart of an on going effort to improve the quality of living in the Rockaways.


Affordable housing developer the Arker Companies and partner the Northeast Brooklyn Housing Development Corp. purchased the former Peninsula Hospital Center and an adjacent vacant lot for $19 million.

After the Far Rockaway hospital closed in 2012, developers have been floating ideas for the site, which boasts more than 760,000 buildable square feet, including building new senior housing. Michael Melnicke, a former board member of Peninsula Hospital, is the seller.
