Root-cause medicine requires a thorough intake, testing that takes time to return, and a patient willing to be an active participant.

What it offers in return: a coherent explanation for what has been happening and a plan built around their specific biology, not a general protocol.

If you've been moving through the system without a coherent picture of what's happening, that's a gap this kind of care is built to close.

Most people leave appointments without the information they came for, not because providers are withholding it, but because the visit isn't structured for the questions that matter most.

These are specific, informed questions that can meaningfully change what you get out of a clinical conversation.

Lab markers are downstream of physiology.

When we address the root cause, restore nutrient status, reduce gut inflammation, support cortisol rhythm, the body begins to function better before biomarkers catch up.

Symptom tracking is as important as re-testing. Both tell part of the story.

How you feel week to week is data — it belongs in the clinical picture alongside your labs.

Metformin depletes B12. Statins deplete CoQ10. PPIs impair absorption of magnesium, B12, zinc, and iron. Oral contraceptives reduce B6, B2, folate, and zinc.

These are predictable, documented outcomes of long-term use.
And they are almost never discussed at the prescribing visit.

Ask your provider whether nutrient status has been assessed alongside your standard labs — it often hasn't.

Methylation affects neurotransmitter production, detoxification, DNA repair, and how the body clears homocysteine.

When it's impaired, the effects are wide-ranging and often mistaken for something else entirely.

The slides cover what the cycle does, what disrupts it, and what testing can reveal.

Difficulty concentrating, slowed thinking, and mental heaviness that persists regardless of sleep is information about what's happening systemically.

The most common drivers: neuroinflammation from gut permeability, blood sugar instability, suboptimal thyroid hormone conversion, elevated homocysteine.
Often more than one is present at the same time.

Brain fog with a normal basic panel is exactly the kind of presentation that warrants a deeper look.

Some of the most elevated inflammatory markers I've seen have been in high-functioning people with good diets and no overt health complaints.

The driver is almost always chronic sleep disruption, unaddressed gut permeability, sustained stress, or subclinical infection. Because these patients feel fine, they are rarely screened for it.

Feeling fine is not the same as having no inflammation — proactive testing is how you know the difference.

Standard CRP gives you a rough signal. It doesn't tell you where inflammation is originating or how long it has been present.

These slides cover the markers that offer a more complete inflammatory picture and what each one actually tells you clinically.

The relevant clinical question is never just "are your markers elevated?" It's what the body is responding to.

Unresolved gut infections, oxidative stress, chronic sleep disruption.

These are distinct drivers requiring distinct interventions. Lowering inflammation without addressing the source is like turning off the smoke alarm without looking for the fire.

If you've been told your inflammation is elevated with no explanation for why, that question deserves a real answer.

Fiber benefits most people. For someone with SIBO or significant dysbiosis, increasing fiber can worsen symptoms considerably.

Fermentation drives gas and inflammation rather than reducing it.

This is one reason I don't make significant dietary recommendations without understanding the gut environment first. Testing changes the recommendation.

Testing the gut environment before overhauling your diet is a much more direct path to answers.
