It’s Baby Safety Month, and we’re taking it one safety topic at a time. 👶🦺 First up: safe sleep. Those adorable nursery blankets, stuffed animals, bumpers, and pillows may look cozy, but they don’t belong in the crib during sleep. For every sleep, remember the basics: baby on their back, on a firm mattress, with nothing else in the crib. Simple, but worth repeating.

We're wrapping up our August Monday breastfeeding tips with one more helpful reminder inspired by National Breastfeeding Week. 💛🍼

Is your baby getting enough? In the early days, it's normal to wonder if your little one is eating enough. A few signs to look for include steady weight gain and having about 6 to 8 wet diapers a day after the first 5 days of life. Remember, every baby is different, and your healthcare provider can help answer questions and provide guidance along the way.

This creates a connected month-long series while avoiding repeating the exact same introduction on every post.

Today is National Rainbow Baby Day 🌈🤍

A rainbow baby is a child born after a pregnancy loss or the loss of a baby. This day is a reminder to honor the journey families take, the emotions they carry, and the hope that can come after difficult moments.

At Encompass Family Support Services, we celebrate every child and support families through every stage of their journey. Every story is unique, and every little one is worthy of love, support, and care!

Today, we recognize the rainbow babies, the families who continue to heal, and the communities that surround them with compassion.

We're continuing our August breastfeeding series with another Monday tip in recognition of National Breastfeeding Week. 🍼👶

Did you know babies usually show they're hungry before they cry? Watch for early hunger cues like stirring from sleep, smacking their lips, opening and closing their mouth, bringing their hands to their face, or turning their head to search for food. Responding to these early signs can make feeding time a little easier for both you and your baby.

Crying is often a late hunger cue, so learning your baby's early signals can help everyone stay a little calmer.

Is your baby too warm? ☀️🥵 During hot August days, it’s important to know the signs of overheating. To check, feel your baby’s chest or the back of their neck. Their skin should feel warm and dry. Hands and feet can naturally feel cooler, so they aren’t the best place to check.

Signs your baby may be too hot include:
• Sweaty hair, a damp neck or chest, flushed cheeks, or a heat rash
• Extra fussiness, restlessness, or being unusually sleepy
• Fast breathing or a rapid heartbeat

If your baby seems overheated, remove a layer of clothing, move to a cooler space, or adjust the room temperature. Keeping little ones comfortable and safe helps everyone enjoy summer a little more.
