📢 News release: To***co compliance checks were performed in Fargo on Wednesday, July 29. In total, 37 businesses were checked and 32 passed, resulting in an 86% compliance rate.

conducts compliance checks several times each year, in partnership with law enforcement agencies in Fargo, West Fargo and Cass County. The purpose of the checks is to ensure licensed to***co retailers are not selling any to***co, ni****ne or va**ng products to individuals under the age of 21. FCPH appreciates the cooperation of retailers throughout the community who are committed to following the law and helping to prevent youth from accessing these products.

Following each round of compliance checks, FCPH community health educators conduct follow-up visits with retailers who were found to be out of compliance. These visits focus on providing education about applicable laws and ordinances related to the sale of to***co products, including va**ng devices. Retailers are encouraged to review these requirements regularly and incorporate them into employee training to support consistent compliance.

Thank you to ND Health and Human Services for creating this educational resource about kratom!

🌿 Kratom is a product derived from the leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa tree, that produces opioid-like effects by binding to opioid receptors in the brain. Marketed for pain relief, anxiety, and increased energy, kratom products have been widely available in North Dakota in various unregulated forms, including powders, capsules, gummies, extracts, and beverages, and highly concentrated 7-OH variants, often sold openly in gas stations, convenience stores and to***co shops.

⚠️ On Monday, August 3, Gov. Kelly Armstrong and Attorney General Drew Wrigley announced three executive actions aimed at protecting public health and safety by curbing access to kratom amid growing concerns about the drug, which is currently unregulated in North Dakota with no minimum age for purchase. Armstrong issued an executive order today “in an effort to limit the fatal overdoses and imminent public health threat” caused by kratom, mitragynine, and 7-OH. The order declares a public health emergency and prohibits the sale, use and possession of all kratom and kratom products in North Dakota, effective 5 p.m. Aug. 5.

💙 August 1–7 is National WIC Breastfeeding Week!

This week, we celebrate the families, healthcare providers, lactation professionals, and community partners who help make breastfeeding support possible.

At Fargo , we're proud to support families throughout their breastfeeding journey. Our team includes an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) who provides evidence-based lactation support, education, and personalized guidance to help families meet their individual breastfeeding goals.

Whether you're preparing for your baby's arrival, have questions after delivery, or need support along the way, we're here to help.

Together, we can build healthier families and healthier communities by protecting, promoting, and supporting breastfeeding—not just this week, but all year long.

If you or someone you know could benefit from WIC services, we encourage you to learn more about our program and the breastfeeding support available to eligible families. Help us spread the word by sharing this post with friends, family, and neighbors.

🌍 World Breastfeeding Week | August 1–7

This year's theme highlights the importance of tracking progress and measuring the impact of breastfeeding on nutrition, food security and poverty reduction.

🤱 Breastfeeding provides optimal nutrition for infants, supports lifelong health and offers a low-cost, sustainable food source that benefits families and communities. When we protect, promote and support breastfeeding, we help improve health outcomes while advancing equity and strengthening our communities.

This week, we celebrate the families, healthcare providers, employers, and community partners who are part of the Warm Chain of Support for Breastfeeding. Together, we can continue building environments where every family has the support they need to meet their infant feeding goals. 💗

💙 Join us in recognizing World Breastfeeding Week and the lasting impact of breastfeeding on healthier families and communities.
