When a pet refuses a pill, medication time can quickly become a challenge.

Dogs may spit tablets out. Cats may avoid medication altogether. Other animals may refuse food once they detect something has been added. When the full prescribed dose is difficult to give consistently, the dosage form can make a meaningful difference.

Dry mouth is more than a comfort issue. Saliva plays an important role in chewing, swallowing, speech, cleansing the teeth, and helping neutralize acids in the mouth.

When saliva production decreases, eating and speaking may become more challenging, and oral health concerns may become more difficult to manage. Sjögren’s syndrome, certain medications, aging, and other factors may contribute to persistent xerostomia.

Research has explored malic acid’s potential role in stimulating salivary flow. When combined with fluoride, it may provide additional support for oral health in individuals experiencing dry mouth concerns.
