A historic demographic shift is taking place in the United States.
According to the CDC, the U.S. general fertility rate fell to 53.1 births per 1,000 women (ages 15–44) in 2025—the lowest ever recorded. The total fertility rate is now approximately 1.56 children per woman, well below the replacement level of 2.1 needed to maintain population size without immigration.
More women are also delaying childbirth into their 30s and beyond. While this is often influenced by education, careers, finances, and changing social priorities, age itself is an important biological factor because fertility naturally declines over time.
At the same time, infertility has become increasingly common. Researchers continue to study the many contributing factors, including delayed childbearing, chronic stress, obesity, environmental toxins, endocrine-disrupting chemicals, poor metabolic health, and certain medical conditions.
One lesson from the history of medicine is that our understanding changes as new evidence emerges. Medical recommendations have evolved many times over the years as longer-term data became available. That is why continuing to ask questions, conduct rigorous research, and remain open to new evidence is essential.
As a classical homeopath, I have also seen another side of this story. Over the years, I have worked with couples who had been told that pregnancy was unlikely, yet after individualized homeopathic treatment, they were able to conceive naturally. Homeopathy is not a guarantee and it is not a substitute for appropriate medical evaluation, but by addressing the individual as a whole and supporting overall health, it may help improve fertility in some people.
Every couple deserves a thorough evaluation, honest information about all available options, and care that looks beyond symptoms alone. Protecting reproductive health requires a comprehensive approach—addressing lifestyle, nutrition, underlying health conditions, emotional well-being, environmental exposures, and, when appropriate, integrative therapies such as classical homeopathy.
