Smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to impact air quality in many parts of the U.S.

Poor air quality can irritate your eyes and throat, trigger asthma, and increase the risk of more serious heart and lung problems.

Here are a few ways to protect yourself:

- Limit time outside
- Wear a facemask if you must go outdoors
- Close windows and doors
- Run your home and car air conditioners on the recirculating air setting
- Limit activities that increase indoor air pollution, like vacuuming
- Check your local air quality and weather alerts before heading outdoors

Important update: Several Connecticut communities have declared a state of emergency due to damage caused by recent thunderstorms.

Stay safe while cleanup and power restoration efforts are underway.

✅ Stay off roads unless travel is essential and follow local emergency guidance.
✅ Treat intersections with non-functioning traffic signals as four-way stops.
✅ Stay far away from downed power lines, damaged utility poles and fallen trees.
✅ Do not attempt to move debris near power equipment.
✅ Use available emergency shelters if directed by local officials.
✅ Check on neighbors, especially older adults and those who may need assistance.
✅ Monitor local news, municipal alerts and official emergency management channels for updates.
