Eggs Recalled in four states.

"The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has officially upgraded the massive recall of nearly 20 million eggs (1.6 million cartons) to a Class I designation, which is the agency's highest and most urgent risk classification. This classification indicates that consuming the contaminated eggs carries a reasonable probability of causing serious adverse health consequences or death.The recall is tied to a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak that has sickened 98 people across 17 states, resulting in 26 hospitalizations.

Affected Products and Brands

The recall applies to both white shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs produced by Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. at its farms in Texas. The eggs were distributed across six states: Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.They were sold at major retailers like Kroger and Brookshire Grocery Company under the following brand names:
Kroger
Simple Truth (Cage-Free)
Brookshire’s
Country Morning
Cal-Maine Sunups

How to Identify Recalled Eggs

Consumers should check the sides of their egg cartons for the following specific codes printed in date-coding ink:
Plant Codes: Look for P-1950 or 0840962.
Julian Dates: A three-digit number between 157 and 184.
Expiration Dates: Sell-by or best-by dates ranging from July 20, 2026, through August 17, 2026.

Required Consumer Action

If you have any of these eggs in your refrigerator, do not eat them. The FDA Advisory strongly recommends taking these steps:

Discard or Return: Throw the eggs away immediately or return them to the store where purchased for a full refund.

Sanitize Surfaces: Thoroughly clean and disinfect any refrigerator drawers, countertops, or utensils that may have come into contact with the eggs or their carton to prevent cross-contamination.
