The Mission of the UPMC Horizon Community Health Foundation and the UPMC Jameson Health Care Foundation is to develop the financial resources needed to enhance health and wellness, and support high-quality, accessible health care in our community. The UPMC Horizon Community Health Foundation works with our hospitals by assisting with specific projects and raising capital, and we provide a variety

of services to benefit the welfare or our community. You can see us at work providing transportation to patients who need to attend physician appointments, offering benevolence to support Horizon employees during hardship, providing life-saving AEDs in community centers, supporting mothers with with prenatal and postpartum care including providing supplies to care for their newborn, assisting cancer patients during treatment and celebrating with them in remission, and providing dependable medical equipment to ensure patients and their loved have access to the tools they need to recover safely and with independence.

The future of giving is already taking shape in our communities. Over the past few months, the UPMC Horizon and Jameson Foundations have been inspired by young people finding meaningful ways to support children facing hospital visits.

From the elementary-age members of the Greenville Area Public Library Crochet Club creating Jared Boxes for young patients to Charli’s Comfort Project delivering care packages inspired by Charli's own hospital experience, these acts of kindness are making a real difference.

Their generosity is a reminder that philanthropy is not defined by age or the size of a donation. Creating healthier, stronger communities can begin with simply recognizing a need and choosing to help.

We’re proud to see investments like this strengthening health care in our communities. The new nuclear medicine imaging suite at UPMC Horizon’s Greenville campus brings advanced technology, more efficient testing and greater access to care closer to home. It’s an investment that helps keep patients local while supporting high-quality care.

At UPMC Horizon’s Greenville campus, staff recently completed an upgrade to the nuclear medical testing by way of a new nuclear medicine imaging suite, which can allow for faster testing, higher quality images and patient care closer to home.

Jennifer Donaldson, nuclear imaging manager for UPMC Horizon, said the technology upgrades have increased the capabilities of the nuclear imaging services, which includes taking what could have previously been a 30-minute heart study down to 12 minutes.

“The speed and the process of it is so much faster than the old equipment,” Brandon Rappach, lead nuclear technician said. “We do a lot of cardiac stress here at Greenville, so that helps,” as two patients can be undergoing the imaging simultaneously, while still having access to privacy. “

In removing the old equipment, that made way for some additional changes to be made, including some cosmetic updates to the nuclear medicine suite.

“UPMC is doing a really good job at looking at all their equipment across all tech and tagging those older pieces of equipment and updating it, making an investment in the communities they serve," said Ellen McCormick, director of imaging of UPMC Horizon and UPMC Jameson.

“The goal is to keep the folks in northern Mercer County local as much as possible,” UPMC Horizon-UPMC Jameson President Dave Patton said. “With this investment, this allows us to do that, given the technology we have and the skill set of our staff, it keeps people local.”
