these bEfriend friends took to the trails at our local NWA walkable coffee shop for a good hang - nothing fancy or out of the ordinary, just enjoying each others company!

bEfriend is a relational model of ministry - gathering adults with and without disability to build friendships. we need more of this in our world!

MEET THE TEAM MONDAY: Sarah Coffey 🎈

next up is our Director of Programs & Outreach, Sarah! she has been part of the 99B team for almost 4 years, but she’ll tell you she’s been a fan long before that. 🫶

friendships with those with disability in elementary school changed her life & who she spent time with. those relationships led her to work as a caregiver, in special education, and lead disability ministries in local churches. before joining the team, Sarah launched a rEcess ministry at her last church!

one thing you’ll hear Sarah say often is: “I’m your extra teammate in Northwest Arkansas, here to cheer you on!” she gets to do that by training and supporting our….

while helping churches and communities discover their next place of movement towards + alongside folks with disability.

NEW BEFRIEND COMMUNITY 📣

these 3 leaders began noticing who was in the seats at church next to them and who wasn’t in Fayetteville, AR.

they have been going through our Host team training for bEfriend and are moving towards pairing adults with & without disability both within their church + the greater Northwest Arkansas community.

would you commit to pray for them with us?
- pray for the names and faces that come to mind - those longing for connection and to be known

- pray for them as they bring together people with so much in common & still so much to learn from one another

- pray for them to start small, to go deeper with fewer.

- & pray that our community would continue moving toward a new story of disability - one where the church becomes more unified + reflecting the body of Christ.

welcome to Meet the Team Monday! 🎈

first up, we’d love to introduce you to our founders, Ginny & Matt Mooney!

this very loved duo created 99 Balloons in celebration of their son, Eliot, whose 99 days on earth changed their lives and the lives of families across the globe.

Ginny is our incredible Executive Director, leading our day-to-day work, inviting so many into the story through fundraising, championing our mission, and always inspiring the 99B team to bring our vision to life as she brings her heart as a mom!

&& Matt - who recently completed his PhD in Theological Ethics at the University of Aberdeen - has served in many roles through the years but recently stepped into a new support role, consulting on Theology & Thought, which explores the intersection of faith and disability.

99 Balloons was built in hopes of catalyzing a movement toward more inclusive communities, where people with and without disabilities come together to form meaningful relationships. every day, the Mooneys pour their hearts into this lifelong pursuit.

meet Henry & Keegan (the two on the right side of the image)! they’re our newest bEfriend pairing in Bentonville, AR. they were introduced by a mutual connection who thought their personalities, hobbies, and hopes for the future would align well (& it helps they don’t live too far from each other)!

for their first hangout, they went and got ice cream together & Keegan’s brothers were excited to join too!

after being paired, Henry called their mutual connection and said “I actually, thanks to you, think I’ve found a match!! he’s my friend!”

one Indiana rEcess site brought together their volunteers to say thank you + plan for the year ahead.

- their team since launching in November 2022 has held 22 rEcess nights and expanded to having 1-1’s on their core team on Sunday mornings.
- they’ve served 38 kids with disability, 43 siblings, and a grand total of 31 different families experiencing disability in their community 🎉😭

& here’s the thing - 7 of those families actively attend their church, 24 of the families are from the greater community. 🤍

one of those parents not currently attending the church said, “everyone is so happy to be there, so friendly and remembers us. we do not attend the church but they always make us feel like we’re part of the same congregation. I’ll forever be thankful for that.”

our program director was on a call with a mom of a child with disability who has been preparing for how to boldly present to her church leaders of why something like rEcess matters - why it matters that those with and without disability in their church have opportunities to moved towards one another.

she said at the end of the call, “I feel empowered to speak without shying away from what this really is - changing the story of disability”

we are praying for families like hers across the globe who fiercely advocate for their children in every context

we are praying for the noticing churches who don’t wait to be asked but instead go before families to create access to the Gospel and community life for the whole family

we are thankful for the gift of churches who have entered in to relationship, who get curious, who ask good questions, who apologize if they don’t always get it right + keep going

we believe the story of disability in the church is changing 🎈

our rEcess theme for this past year is “Alongside” that this life is better when we are truly with one another.

rEcess emphasizes that no ministry rises and falls on one person - that each person brings their gifts and their weaknesses and all are welcome…..from the leadership team making it happen to a changed community where those with & without disability come alongside one another.

this is what it’s all about! featuring one of our newest rEcess teams in Granbury, TX leading the way🫶
