What does 12/3 mean in KetoFLEX 12/3™?
It refers to a daily fasting rhythm: at least 12 hours between dinner and breakfast, with the final meal completed at least 3 hours before bedtime.

KetoFLEX is plant-rich, individualized, and part of a broader plan within the ReCODE approach — not a stand-alone treatment.

If you’ve been researching cognitive decline, you’ve probably noticed how repetitive the conventional options can sound.

There’s a reason for that. For decades, mainstream medicine has largely focused on finding one drug to treat one disease, while more than 400 clinical drug trials have failed to produce a complete solution.

Dr. Dale Bredesen’s research through Apollo Health starts from a different premise.

According to Apollo Health, his work has identified more than 36 potential contributors to cognitive decline—from insulin resistance and inflammation to hormonal deficiencies and toxin exposure. Different people may experience cognitive decline for different combinations of reasons.

So instead of starting with a one-size-fits-all prescription, ReCODE begins with comprehensive testing to identify each person’s specific contributors. Those findings are then used to create a personalized plan through the ReCODE Report™.

That’s the protocol we deliver residentially, with around-the-clock support, at the Birch Building at Lakeshore Woods.

What’s the most confusing thing you’ve encountered while researching treatment options?

Ask below—plain-English answers are kind of our thing.

When families picture a medical program, they usually picture fluorescent lights and waiting rooms. Then they visit Birch.

The Birch Building at Lakeshore Woods is a dedicated residential setting for the ReCODE+ program: private residences, a dining room serving protocol-built meals from a scratch kitchen, structured daily routines, and staff trained in dementia care available around the clock. It sits on a peaceful 7-acre campus in Fort Gratiot, near the shoreline of Lake Huron.

The setting isn't just about comfort. The protocol asks a lot of each resident—new nutrition, healthier sleep habits, regular exercise, and brain training. Those changes are easier to sustain in a place that feels calm, familiar, and welcoming.

If you'd like to see it in person, we'd be happy to show you around. Tours are available most days of the week.

Over the past two weeks we've shared the science, the research timeline, the Bredesen Seven, and who the program fits. Today, the practical step.

The Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center is one of only two U.S. senior living centers offering Apollo Health's ReCODE+ For Facilities Program. Per Apollo Health, two published studies show 75–84% of participants with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and early-stage dementia experienced measurable improvement in cognition on the ReCODE program.

The program is delivered residentially, with 24/7 support, at the Birch Building at Lakeshore Woods in Fort Gratiot.

The first step is a free consultation. Our team reviews your loved one's situation and tells you honestly whether ReCODE is the right fit. If it isn't, we'll tell you that too.

A lot of families feel caught between two worlds: a protocol they've researched deeply, and a physician they trust who hasn't encountered it. Here's how to bridge that well.

Lead with the literature. The ReCODE research includes a 2022 pilot clinical trial published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease and a 2025 randomized controlled trial (per Apollo Health). Ask your doctor to review the publications, and mean it as a real request, not a challenge.

Expect skepticism and don't fear it. Caution is what good physicians owe you. The research is published and reviewable, which is exactly the standard skeptics should apply.

And know this: the program works alongside physician care, never in place of it. We're happy to send the publications to any doctor, or get on the phone with them directly.

Comment "doctor" and we'll send you the physician packet: the published studies, ready to forward or bring to an appointment.

One of the most common questions families ask is whether cognitive decline can be prevented.

The answer depends on many factors, but research continues to show that brain health is influenced by lifestyle, metabolic health, sleep quality, nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and early intervention.

While no program can promise prevention or guarantee outcomes, addressing these areas proactively may help support long-term cognitive health.

The Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center is committed to sharing science-based information that helps families make informed decisions about brain health at every stage of life.

The cognitive care space has real science in it now, which means it also has marketing dressed as science. These seven questions will tell you quickly which one you're looking at.

Ask what testing is done and why. Ask for published, peer-reviewed evidence, and notice whether you get studies or stories. Ask who the program is wrong for; an honest program has a ready answer. Ask about the daily schedule, the kitchen, the family's role, and how progress is measured and re-measured.

Then ask us the same seven. Question three is our favorite: yes, we tell families when the fit isn't right, on the first call, for free.

Save this list. Whatever program your family considers, anywhere in the country, it will serve you.

What would you add as question 8? The families who've done this vetting know things the rest of us should hear.

Families often ask if someone has to leave behind the comforts of senior living to receive advanced cognitive care.

The answer is no.

Residents in the Birch Building continue living in a welcoming residential community while participating in the ReCODE+ For Facilities Program. Comfortable accommodations, nutritious meals, activities, compassionate caregivers, and personalized cognitive care all work together in one setting.

Instead of traveling between appointments or trying to manage a complex protocol at home, residents receive coordinated support where they live.

It's senior living designed to actively support brain health, not simply manage
decline.

If you only trust one kind of medical evidence, make it the randomized controlled trial. It's the design that removes wishful thinking: participants are randomly assigned, so the results reflect the intervention, not the enthusiasm of the people who chose it.

In 2025, ReCODE was put to that test, the first trial of its kind for the protocol. Per Apollo Health: 90% of participants improved in the 2025 Randomized Controlled Trial. The trial found statistically significant improvements in memory, executive function, processing speed, and overall cognition, with an effect size 600% greater than the leading FDA-approved Alzheimer's drug. Participants also showed improved blood pressure, insulin sensitivity, and cholesterol levels.

As always: individual outcomes vary, the research is public, and we'll happily send it to you or your doctor.

What would convince YOUR family, or your family's doctor? Tell us what evidence you'd want to see and we'll point you to it.
