Had the pleasure of hearing him speak and being a guest at his park in 2011! Grace had an amazing time! Pure joy on everyone’s faces there! Well worth the trip!
Gordon Hartman was on holiday with his family when he watched his daughter Morgan approach a group of children tossing a ball in a hotel pool. They took the ball and left.
He has said he will never forget the look on her face, and that the incident was the tipping point.
He sold his San Antonio homebuilding business in 2005 for $51 million, set up a family foundation, and spent roughly $34 million building a theme park that opened in
2010.
Morgan's Wonderland covers 25 acres with a carousel built to take wheelchairs, jungle gyms wide enough for two side by side, braille games and table-height sandboxes. Doctors, therapists and parents helped design it.
Admission is free for anyone with a disability.
Everyone else pays. Three out of four visitors have no disability at all, which was the point.
Morgan is 30.
The park has drawn visitors from 67 countries, added a $17 million water park, a 102-acre camp and an accessible hotel.
