So...what happens when the survival strategies we learned as kids follow us into adulthood?
Yesterday we hugged our inner child.
Today,.we talk about why that actually does something.
When you were little and life felt unpredictable, your nervous system learned to protect you.
Get loud. 📢
Get small. 🥺
Get perfect. 🎁
Get angry. 👹
Whatever worked.
But it wasn't just one moment. Every experience that made you feel unsafe piled on top of the last.
And for some of us, the piling never stopped - conditioning our system to stay on guard.
Always scanning. Always bracing.
That's why we snap at the small things.
That's why we feel terrible when the people around us aren't happy.
That's why we can go from fine to fury in half a second and wonder what just happened.
Your nervous system has been doing overtime for decades. Nobody ever told it the shift was over. ✌️
When we offer ourselves safety - a hand on your chest, a breath, a kind word to our younger self - we activate the vagus nerve. The part of our brain responsible for rest and calm. We send a signal that says "we're ok right now."
Over time, that rewires the default.
That's not woo. That's neuroscience 🤓
And it's worth doing 💫💜💫
