TCM Summer Wellness: What Patients Ask Most ☀️

Summer often brings a predictable wave of patient questions into clinics.

Practitioners are commonly addressing:
• Damp heat patterns
• Hydration support
• Seasonal food choices
• Sleep disruption
• Afternoon energy crashes

As temperatures rise, many patients notice changes in digestion, sleep quality, stress levels, and overall energy balance.

This season also creates opportunities for practitioners to educate patients on prevention, lifestyle support, and long-term wellness strategies through acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutrition, and integrative care.

What concerns are showing up most in your clinic right now?

3 Acupuncture Points Practitioners Reach for in Summer ☀️

Seasonal shifts often bring changes in heat patterns, sleep quality, digestion, and overall balance.

Here are three commonly discussed acupuncture points practitioners may focus on during the summer months:

🔹 LI4 (Hegu) — Frequently used in discussions around heat patterns, circulation, and general regulation support.

🔹 HT7 (Shenmen) — Often referenced for calming support, stress regulation, and sleep-related concerns during hotter months.

🔹 ST36 (Zusanli) — A classic point many practitioners incorporate for digestive balance, energy support, and overall wellness.

Summer can place additional strain on sleep, hydration, digestion, and nervous system balance — making seasonal treatment strategies especially important.

New Research Spotlight from a Friend of Golden Needle

James C. Whittle recently published a paper in Medical Hypotheses examining Trigeminal Neuralgia through a holistic, systems-oriented lens.

Rather than focusing solely on structural anatomy, the paper explores how neurological “rate-dependent” mechanisms and broader physiological patterns may contribute to chronic nerve pain.

The U.S. Department of Education has issued a proposed rule that could significantly impact higher education programs participating in federal student loan programs — including Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine education.

CCAHM supports accountability and transparency in higher education. However, proposed earnings metrics may not accurately reflect the realities of licensed healthcare professions, where graduates often complete board certification and state licensure after graduation and may build independent practices over time.

Your voice matters.

Comments are most effective when they include your personal experience as a practitioner, educator, student, graduate, employer, patient, or community member. Consider sharing how this proposed rule could affect:
• Student access to AHM education
• Patient access to care
• Small and independent healthcare practices
• The future of the AHM workforce

Submit your public comment now and help ensure Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine are represented in this process.
