Working as a nanny in London, she was responsible for looking after children, walking them through busy streets, playing in the park, and helping with daily routines. At the time, Diana lived with friends in a flat in Earl’s Court and earned about £1 an hour for her childcare work.

Just two years later, her world would transform. In 1981, Diana married Prince Charles, becoming Princess of Wales and stepping onto the world stage. The contrast between this image and her later life as one of the most photographed women on earth highlights how sudden her rise to global fame was.

Diana’s early work as a nanny and nursery assistant reflected a genuine love for children, something she carried into her later role as a royal. Her compassion and ease with young people would become one of her defining qualities, shaping her reputation as the “People’s Princess.”
