The number one thing women say when asked what their goals are in the gym.

“I want to tone up”

Which is great! However I think there’s a major misconception about what that actually means.

Because as soon as I mention weight lifting and building muscle it’s an immediate no from them.

So here’s what “toning up” actually means ⬇️

Simply put, looking toned means that you have muscle definition that has been uncovered by losing body fat.

But here’s the thing. In order to have muscle definition you have to do weight bearing exercise to build muscle first. Then lose enough body fat to see that muscle definition.

“Tone” is short for muscle tone.

As for me, I’ll be over here building as much muscle mass as I can so I don’t need a super low body fat percentage in order to see muscle definition.

Join Temple Of Her Goddesses Facebook group. I’m terrible at consistently posting, but I’d like to do a series for lifting 101.

And stay tuned for big things to come in the new year!

I put these jeans on today and realized how far I’ve come on my health journey.

It truly hasn’t been about weight loss. For me, It’s been about focusing on healing my body from the inside out.
Using whole foods, lowering stress, regulating my nervous system, and supporting my body. Because honestly it’s been systemic inflammation among many other issues that I’ve been healing caused by trauma, insane amounts of stress, overworking, and not taking care of my body.

The top right was Oct 3 last year. Bottom right today. Seeing this I couldn’t believe how much inflammation I was holding onto.

The bulk of effort and healing I’ve done was started only 6 months ago!

Something I’ve learned is that you won’t make the changes necessary for better health if your mind isn’t made up that you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired. You have to wholeheartedly want to make the changes and do whatever it takes to heal from within.

This wasn’t a quick fix. This was looking at the body as a whole, because everything is connected. This was healing emotionally, and reducing stress. This was fueling my body with whole foods.

Was I perfect 100% of the time? Absolutely not and I probably could have done better but I’ve done the best I could and I’m proud of the progress I’ve made thus far.

I’m learning so much in the myofascial class I’m taking about healing in a much deeper way. I’m so excited to apply it all to myself and be able to help others heal on a deeper level as well.

“Get your pink back”

This is what came to mind today seeing these rainbows in the gym. Let me explain.

Did you know that flamingoes lose their vibrant pink color while raising their babies because of the amount of physical depletion it takes to raise their young?

And as they start to get their pink back that means their energy, vitality and spark is starting to come back.

This can be applied to all women, not just mothers. We give and give to everyone else and often times we put ourselves on the back burner.

Here’s your permission slip to get your pink back. It’s not selfish to take care of yourself too.

For as long as I can remember I have hated running.

I used to joke that lifting heavy was my cardio. I would choose anything, and I mean anything over running.

But something has been pulling at me lately to try it again. So that’s what I did today! And guess what it felt really good! (I guess all of my dancing has paid off lol)

I’m heading to Colorado for a myofascial education class at a retreat center in Estes Park in about a month and I want to be prepared for the higher elevation.
I only did some intervals today to ease back into running, but plan to try to do 4x4s to help increase my VO2max before then.

So this right here is your sign to try something you hate again, give it another shot. Or simply just try something new!

I’m curious what’s something you hate that you’d try again? Or what’s something new you want to try? It could be anything, not just exercise related!

Let me guess…

In the past you’ve started a health journey, fitness journey, or a “diet” because you hated the way you look.

Think about that for a moment from an outside perspective. What does that feel like?

To me that does not feel good.

What if, you flipped the script?

What if, you learned to love and respect yourself and hold your self to a higher standard so much that you only want what’s best for your body.
Moving your body, lifting weights, eating food that fuels your body.

Now think about that for a moment. What does that feel like?

To me that feels like a much better energy. That feels like a better approach to health. That feels like someone who finally quit starting and stopping their health journey.

Because I feel that when you approach fitness and health from a place of love instead of hate for oneself, you are way more likely to stick to it all. Even if life does happen (which is inevitable) it’s way easier to get back on track.

If you’re ready to start back up from a place of love and respect fill out the inquiry form below!

GLP-1s
Let’s talk about it…

I have to get this off my chest, because glp-1s have been such a point of contention in my brain. So I’m just going to say it.

This feels like another fad diet. And yet another way that providers can take more of your money without teaching long term health.

Do I think they can be beneficial for some people? Yes. Do I think some people are truly making the lifestyle changes they need to, to sustain the changes? Yes.
But I’m also seeing a lot of people using glp-1s as a quick fix for weight loss.

Yes I do think metabolic health is a problem for majority of people right now, and yes these meds can help, however lifestyle changes still need to be made. I fear Doctors prescribing them aren’t driving that point home to their patients.

I’ve listed ways to support your body and long term health in the graphic below. GLP-1s aren’t a quick fix. If you want sustained weight loss and health, lifestyle changes still need to be made.
