Welcome to AMAR! Meet Leo, your future shadow! This 1-year-old Maltese boy is ready to leave his rough past behind and find his true forever home.
Leo is the definition of a "good boy"—incredibly lovable, sweet, and cuddly. He is a true Velcro dog who will happily follow you from room to room just to keep you company. Before coming into rescue, Leo was sadly left in a crate for long hours, which caused him to soil himself. Because of this "crate trauma," he is still working on his house-training and needs a patient routine to build his confidence. He does great wearing a belly band and is doing well learning to p**p on p*e pads. He will thrive with an adopter who works from home and can give him the regular potty breaks and companionship he craves.
Leo is currently being fostered with another small dog and cats, proving he is a friendly little guy who gets along great with furry friends. He also absolutely loves his toys! He was neutered on September 22, 2026, and recently had his first haircut. While he is still new to professional grooming and can be a bit squirmy, he did fantastic for his first time. He is also a smart boy who is currently learning how to walk nicely on a leash.

It's with great sadness that we report the passing of Sharon Binger, former Treasurer of American Maltese Association Rescue. Sharon was someone whose contributions to AMAR were boundless. Her love of Maltese got her into rescue. She had her own 501(c)(3) Maltese rescue in the late 1990’s and early 2000s. She then became a coordinator for AMAR in Oregon and Washington, and later, served as Treasurer. She got our database up and running and trained our coordinators in how to use it. She processed the medical bills for all of our dogs. She also created our first calendars. Sharon traveled to AMA Specialties several times and helped with the rescue raffles, auctions, etc. We will all miss Sharon and her contributions which meant so much to our organization.

Look at who we have here. Introducing AMAR's newest rescue, Chloe, who just came to us in southeast GA. She's estimated at between 2 and 4 years of age, and her foster thinks she's closer to being 2. She was an owner surrender who was adopted from a shelter and the couple felt they couldn't keep up with her energy. We see their point, so we'll be looking for an active family for her to work off that energy. She's house trained and a sweetheart. Chloe loves toys and will come up for a head scratch and then flip over in a millisecond for a tummy scratch. She needs all her vetting done before she's available for adoption, but we'll keep you posted.
