American Maltese Association Rescue Latest news about saving AMA Rescue dogs! For additional information, or to make a donation, please visit our website: https://www.americanmalteserescue.org/

American Maltese Association Rescue fills the gap between unwanted Maltese and Adoptive Homes. We save dogs from shelters, found dogs, owner surrenders, puppy mills, and backyard breeders. All our rescues go directly into a loving foster home, where all their medical needs will be addressed. Once they are healthy we seek the perfect Forever Home for them. We usually receive multiple applications f

or each of our dogs. Since we are volunteers, all donations go directly to helping the dogs. Donations requested for a particular dog will all go toward that dog's care. All overflow donations or funds will go toward our Mission of saving other Maltese dogs. Donations and foster homes are always needed. Won't you open your heart to a rescue Maltese?

🐾 Meet Teddy: Equal Parts Zoomies, Toys, and Snuggles! 🐾

If you're looking for a couch potato, keep scrolling! If you're looking for a fun-loving, toy-tossing, cuddle-giving best friend, Teddy may be your guy.

Teddy is AMAR's adorable, 8-month-old Maltipoo foster, located in Brunswick, Georgia. At 14-pounds, he's the perfect size for adventures, playtime, and snuggling up to after he's finally burned off some of that puppy energy. He was an owner surrender where one of his parents developed medical issues.

This handsome youngster loves toys, enjoys his walks or runs in the yard, and gets along well with his foster brothers. He could be happy as an only dog, but if he has a canine sibling, it should be a dog his size or larger—Teddy plays with enthusiasm and doesn't always realize how much energy he brings to the party!

āœ… Neutered
āœ… Microchipped
āœ… Up-to-date on vaccinations
āœ… Full bloodwork panel completed
āœ… Heartworm negative
āœ… Tick disease negative

Teddy is about 90% house-trained and like most rescue dogs will need reinforcement in his new home. He does seem to have some separation anxiety, so he'd do best with someone who works from home, is an early retiree, or has a canine companion to help keep him company. We do age appropriate adoptions in hopes that the dog doesn't outlive the adopter and need rehoming again.

A fenced yard would be wonderful, but Teddy is also happy walking on a leash and exploring the world with his people.
AMAR only adopts near where the dog is fostered, so applicants must live within approximately a 4 hour drive of Brunswick, GA.

Think Teddy might be the missing member of your family? You must fill out an adoption application for him: https://www.americanmalteserescue.org/adoption-process

We have some very sad news to share. Oliver, who was adopted nearly 9 years ago from us at AMAR, passed away this week. He had recently been under treatment for heart disease and seemed stabilized after a CHF episode, but suddenly suffered an overwhelming heart attack. Our hearts are broken, particularly for his dad, Marc and mom, Florence. They were the most wonderful parents to him and and took him everywhere, including work, with them. Marc was always so giving to AMAR as well, to benefit our other dogs in need. Oliver was lucky enough to enjoy trips to ski country and this video of him showed the joy he felt, running in the snow. We hope he's running that way over the rainbow bridge to play with all our sweet dogs who have passed. You will be missed. šŸ’”

GREAT NEWS!!! Summer and Wonder found their Forever Home today. Their new mom is doubly excited, because these bonded sisters were adopted together.

They have a Pomeranian brother, Monkey, to play with. He is very happy to have canine sisters to play with.

Good things come in twos, and this time it was Summer and Wonder who won the hearts of this human and this dog.

May they all live happily ever after.

Our Northern California girls visited the groomer, and when we saw them in their bows we couldn't resist a photo shoot.

Here are our glamour girls, Wonder and Summer!

They are 7 year old, bonded sisters, now interviewing for their Forever Home.

Wonder is not quite one pound larger than Summer. Her ears are trimmed slightly longer. So, to tell them apart, Summer is slightly smaller and her ears are trimmed shorter.

They are sweetness personified. They should be models, or movie stars. It was difficult to narrow down the many photos we took, as they are just so gorgeous!

If you are at all interested, we recommend you get your application submitted soon. You can find it on our website at https://www.americanmalteserescue.org/adoption-process

** ADOPTED**

***BREAKING NEWS***
Cuteness, love, and happily-ever-afters do NOT expire with age šŸ˜‰

At 9 years young, MaiTai & Soraya just landed the ultimate prize—a forever home! šŸ’›

These tiny girls (just 5–6 lbs of pure sweetness!) are proof that ā€œolderā€ simply means wiser, gentler, and so ready for the good life. And, boy, have they found it with their new mom and dad and two canine siblings.

Double the love, double the joy—and now, double the happily ever after 🐾🐾

Cheers to new beginnings, cozy couches, and being adored exactly as they deserve.

Special thanks to their awesome foster mom, Sherry, and her husband, Tim. You brought them out of their shells.

Meet Fiorella 🌸

Please welcome one of our newest AMAR gems, Fiorella, currently fostered in Southern California.

Her name—of Italian origin—means ā€œlittle flower,ā€ and it couldn’t suit her better. At just 13 months old and a tiny 2.8 lbs, Fiorella is as delicate and sweet as her name suggests.

She’s a shy little girl right now, still learning that the world can be kind—but we’re already seeing glimpses of the happy pup she’s meant to be. With a patient and loving home, we know she’ll blossom beautifully. She's a delicate little flower so no children or rambunctious dogs. And she needs an adopter who will be around her whole life.

Fiorella still needs her full medical evaluation, including her spay and repair of a small umbilical hernia, so she won’t be ready for adoption just yet. But we’re accepting applications from those who feel a connection to this tiny flower.

If you live in Southern CA and think Fiorella might be the one for you, please review our adoption guidelines and submit an application: https://www.americanmalteserescue.org/adoption-process

Our AMAR family is very sad to report that Suzanna ā€œSueā€ Lee Graham, 81, of Canonsburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly, during her courageous battle with cancer on April 13, 2026. Our condolences go out to her family.

Sue adored the Maltese breed and had expansive knowledge of it. She served as the first Secretary of our Board of Directors, when we became a 501(c)(3) in 2012, and held that position until 2024. Sue was always happy to help out on our various projects. She's pictured here (on the right) with our MidAtlantic Coordinator, Peggy Van Tassel, at the AMA National Specialty in Asheville in 2017. She and her husband, Ray, really enjoyed the event. We will miss Sue's tireless contributions to our rescue and her friendship and guidance to many of us.

As per her obituary, In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the https://www.americanmalteserescue.org/donate.
