Good morning,
So the day I found out that my brother was in a assault victim, it was on May 9th and I was at a friends house, my cousin had called me in the middle of the day, yet she works nights and usually asleep at that time. My alert system was up the moment I answered the call.
At first it was disbelieve, then ever so slowly the doom started to set in.
Immediately I called my sister to confirm what I had just heard.
In the next few days - I told one or two people - because I’m a hopeful person and believe that, miracles do happen.
Yet, when the pneumonia set in, then the seizures, started coming in. Then my brother sent the most dooming text.
My brother is being bombarded by cops / doctors / attorneys and he couldn’t talk to me.
So I called the hospital - because of the nature of my brother’s case - they had only one person that they would speak to.
It wasn’t me.
Our Dad had been in the hospital himself and had been released from the hospital on the same day that Cecil was assaulted. We were not about to tell an eighty-five year old man, that was just released from a hospital that his youngest son was hospitalized. No-one was ready for that conversation.
What none of us knew was that Cecil regularly called his dad at least 3-4 times a week. When Poppi didn’t hear from Cecil after three days he called Cecil, my brother’s girlfriend answered his phone and told our Dad everything.
He immediately booked a flight to Knoxville, Tennessee and had them drive him to the airport, with the help of airport staff he was on his way to Tennessee.
Upon hearing that my sickly Dad was on his way to a stressful environment - Plus, I wasn’t getting any answers from anyone, I knew only what the papers had published, nothing else, it was too much for me to be wondering what was going on. I had to book a flight. With the help of the yoga studio I taught at “Cambio Yoga” clearing all my class obligations. My daughter was good - I just took a flight the next day.
I didn’t want to lose another person in my life - without first seeing them alive. I do believe that they are able to hear us, and if the body couldn’t do it then I knew that his soul would know that I had come.
My soul felt better for being there and the very next day our cousin had showed up and I started to feel more supported, plus my brother was handling too much on his own. I could see that he was in survival mode and only running on fumes.
It was my younger brother’s (Cecil) daughter, her boyfriend and her Mom, my brother and two of his sons, our cousin, our Dad. On the phones were our siblings and my brother (Charlie) oldest son. We all were together so the doctors could tell us everything.
Absolutely nothing was good. It was doom on top of doom.
As a collective, the family made the most difficult decision of our lives to take him off life-support. Cecil would not want to be that way (A human vegetable). if he couldn’t go back to himself the way he was before the incident happened. We all knew our brother and my dad knew his son just like Cecil’s daughter knew her father. We couldn’t bear to see him suffering anymore and he had already flatlined and they did bring him back to life, but this life was no life, no brain function, machines are breathing for him completely.
It was doom on top of doom on top of doom.
I setup this GoFundMe to help with all of Cecil’s final expenses.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
