Food, Mood & 'Tude A holistic, neurodiversity-affirming support service offering recovery & wellness coaching, neurodivergence education, and systemic advocacy. Lean in.

We reject rigid, neurotypical "one-size-fits-all" wellness advice; leaning into reseadch and lived experience. I have recently stumbled over the long awaited secret of success in all facets of life. Are you listening? It starts with your will. Then comes in how bad you want it. From there, we figure out the way. If there's a will, there's a way, right? When life gets hard and loud and too much, it's time to trust your intuition and step back from the things weighing, recalibrate, reevaluate, and readjust. I'm here to keep it real, make you think, and create healthy boundaries around your peace. Oh, and just so you know, the views shared here are not that of my employer. In case I say something that is offensive and all.

No we didn't eat that food... this "food" is less "food" and more process.

You’re allowed to eat and enjoy food, that’s the whole point of living.

One of the things parents often wonder about is: What can I do from home?

And the simplest answer is: Read to them, read around them, talk to them, ask them questions, listen to them, look them in the eye, put your phones down when communicating, cook for them, cook with them, budget with them, help them but don't take over for them.

And for parents of children who have varied needs and behavior interruptions- just meet them where they are at; but don't be afraid to say no. It takes work, sure, when our kids can't use words to communicate but their behavior is the only way they know how to communicate. That behavior isn't personal- but if you can understand that it feels weird to be told no after being told yes for so long- I can relate all to well to this.

Remember: You can't teach someone to swim when they are drowning. You can only pull them from the water, get them back regulated & breathing okay (lowered heart rate, etc.), and then ask them if they want to try again. We have to accept the no, but keep asking if they're ready. Eventually, they may be.

Things are changing around here!

Some of you may know but I figured I'd share an update on this page, my plans, and goals we have for this updated coaching business.

For about 15 years, I've been a wellness coach. I used to do it under the guise of Beachbody (that's a whole weird thing now, more on this type of "health and wellness" coaching at a different time...) and then on my own with a few groups here and there. If you go back and back on this page, you'll find sweaty selfies and all kinds of disordered weight loss strategies.

But that was before recovery.

I am finishing off my 3rd year sober from alcohol in just a few days, but what people don't understand or recognize is how alcohol was just the self medication for my "ism's".

When I gave up drinking, I had to find the root of everything that was disordered in my brain and body. Through this process, I learned that it's been food, this whole time. I can trace back my calorie counting to 9 years old and remember my first diet before I was 12.

When I got my heart broken in high school, the advice I was given was to, "Starve myself" so I could look better and maybe get him back. I remember vividly being complimented when I went from 127 lbs to 112 lbs in 2 weeks at the ripe old age of 17. I would often seek the "weight loss high" when I needed something to feel good about. I could ALWAYS lose weight.

Until I couldn't; because my body became sick and tired of the starving & binging cycle created with my disordered eating. I would starve myself all day to save on calories in order to give myself permission to drink at night - I found out that's called Drunkorexia. It's the most dangerous of all eating disorders because it combines alcohol.

We live in a world where outward appearance is more important than internal integrity; and I'm not about to live THAT way anymore.

Through my recovery, I became a recovery coach and have a CCAR certification. I also have a Precision Nutrition Certification & years upon years of lived experience and research. The wellness & nutrition coaching didn't ever go away, it just kind of changed and morphed.

I know about every diet there is out there, I learned about the ways our body responds to different foods, and I've found a pattern that works for my life.

But what works for me may not work for you.

My goal is to find what works for each person and to supplement that process with resources and other supports along the way.

As I work to create this business and find space to hold in person meetings, I will be taking on a limited number of humans looking for guidance and support through this life. I am a certified teacher, have extensive history/ background in educating not only teens but also children and adults.

As I build this new business, I will be sharing more information with you all and education will be my focus until I have a space to start meeting people.

In the mean time, what are some diets or foods you want to learn more about? What about eating disorders? Do you want to learn more about autoimmune balancing or neurodivergent parenting tips? Where do people need support?

Full disclosure- Sam Bateman is a pos. This is a full, scathing review of why we need to keep our babies safe. Honestly, this docuseries took me out. I’m still reeling a week later.
