🚨 Autism Parent Water Safety Tip: Your Child's Swimsuit Color Matters More Than You Think! 🚨
As autism parents, we're always thinking about safety, especially around water. 🌊
Many of our children are naturally drawn to water, and sadly, wandering and drowning remain serious risks within the autism community. One safety factor that often gets overlooked is swimwear color visibility.
This image shows how different swimsuit colors appear underwater in a lake versus a swimming pool. Notice how some colors virtually disappear, while others remain easy to spot.
✅ Best Colors for Visibility
• Neon orange
• Bright neon yellow
• Neon pink
• Bright lime green
⚠️ Colors That Can Be Harder to See
• Light blue
• Gray
• White
• Dark green
• Black (especially in lakes, ponds, and darker water)
Water conditions, shadows, waves, glare, and depth can make it difficult to quickly locate a child in an emergency. Choosing highly visible swimwear can provide precious extra seconds when every moment counts.
💙 Additional Water Safety Tips:
✔️ Always designate a "water watcher"
✔️ Consider swim lessons early
✔️ Use layered protection (fences, alarms, locks)
✔️ Never rely solely on flotation devices
✔️ Teach children to ask permission before approaching water
As a mom of children with autism, I know firsthand how quickly our kids can move toward something they love. Water can bring so much joy, but a few simple precautions can make it safer for everyone.
