Why do so many people report similar experiences when listening to singing bowls?
Based on sound meditation studies, participant surveys, and clinical observations, three experiences seem to appear most often:
Vivid visual imagery
Many people report seeing colors, geometric patterns, flashes of light, or vivid scenes of nature behind closed eyes. Some describe floating through space, being underwater, or walking through a peaceful forest.
Emotional release
Others experience a sudden wave of emotion. It might be joy, gratitude, peace, sadness, or even tears. Sometimes emotions we didn’t realize we were holding onto finally have room to surface.
A shift in awareness
Many people describe feeling deeply present, calm, and disconnected from the usual mental noise of everyday life.
One explanation is that the repetitive tones and vibrations help the brain move away from constant external stimulation and into a more relaxed and reflective state. As the mind becomes quieter, thoughts, emotions, memories, and inner imagery can become easier to notice.
For thousands of years, sound has been used in meditation, healing practices, and spiritual traditions around the world. Today, many people use singing bowls as a simple way to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and create a sense of calm in an increasingly busy world.
Now it’s your turn.
Close your eyes, listen until the end, and notice what comes up for you.
Did you experience:
1️⃣ Visual imagery
2️⃣ An emotional response
3️⃣ A feeling of calm, presence, or stillness
Or something completely different?
I’d love to hear your experience in the comments.
