Your OB just referred you to a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist… and you have no idea what that even means. That’s okay, not to be alarmed because most moms are thinking the same thing! 💛

At Signature Perinatal you can expect everything to feel a little easier.

Every appointment includes an ultrasound. The type of ultrasound and evaluation you receive will depend on your gestational age, medical history, and reason for your referral.

Our goal is to take a closer look at your pregnancy, answer your questions, and make sure you leave understanding what we saw and what comes next.

Whether you’re seeing us for additional monitoring, a high-risk pregnancy, a specialized ultrasound, or because your OB would like an MFM perspective, we’re here to work alongside you and your OB throughout your pregnancy. 💙💚

Sometimes pregnancy just needs an extra set of specialized eyes and that’s what we’re here for. 🤰✨

Sometimes, early imaging provides the information a family needs to take the next right step. 💙

Identifying an important finding early helped one family access additional care and prepare for their baby’s needs. Years later, their child is healthy and thriving.

It’s a powerful reminder that early answers can bring clarity, guide care, and make a meaningful difference.

Share this with an expecting family who could use a little hope today 💞

EXPECTING TWINS? HERE’S WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT TTTS.

Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome, or TTTS, can occur when twins share one placenta and blood moves unevenly between them. One baby becomes the donor and the other becomes the recipient. This is not caused by anything the mother did.

Because TTTS is usually found through ultrasound, close monitoring matters. For twins who share a placenta, ultrasound surveillance generally begins at 16 weeks and continues at least every two weeks, with more frequent monitoring when there is a concern.

During each visit, I evaluate the fluid around both babies, bladder visibility, growth, heart function and Doppler blood flow. If TTTS is diagnosed, the stage and gestational age help guide the next step. When fetal laser treatment may be needed, I coordinate care with a specialized fetal treatment center and continue supporting the pregnancy before and after referral.

TTTS is serious, but it is not hopeless. Early detection helps keep more options available.

Ask your provider:
• Do my twins share one placenta?
• When is my next ultrasound?
• Do I need maternal-fetal medicine monitoring?
