Sebaceous filaments are tiny, cylinder-like tubes in your pores that are often mistaken for blackheads. They are a natural part of the skin's oil (sebum) system and are found in areas rich in sebaceous glands, such as the nose and chin. Sebaceous filaments' primary function is to channel the flow of sebum along the lining of the pores to the skin's surface, helping to keep the skin moisturized and protected.
Unlike blackheads, which are a type of acne formed by blocked pores filled with sebum, dead skin cells, and bacteria, sebaceous filaments are not a sign of clogged pores or skin issues. They are lighter in color, usually gray or tan, and can be seen as tiny specks on the skin's surface. While they can become more prominent due to excess sebum production, they are considered a normal part of skin anatomy and not a condition that needs to be treated.
