Earth day.

I have had the good fortune to visit a lot of places and see a lot of different parts of this continent. It is all just a whisper in time, as fleeting as a flower and just as beautiful.

May we all find and share peace in this world, and honor our Earth mother for it is what gives us life itself.

My Surinam cherries are making a ton of fruit this year! I like them very ripe for snacking or for making chutney or salsa. Green Deane’s comments in his book about this fruit are pretty spot-on: “There are several wild plants you will either like or dislike . . . intensely. One is Surinam cherries. Your palate says, “Yes, this is food” or “No way will I ever eat this again.”” 🤣

These shrubs have been here since we moved in and it took me a few years to acquire the taste for them, but now I love them and look forward to munching on the darkest and ripest ones while out in the yard.

Elder!

One of the medicinal hedge plants we talked about in the class presented at this year’s Florida Herbal Conference, Elder has a very long history with us. Native varieties exist on every inhabited continent and we as a species have worked with Elder for medicine and protection for thousands of years. I have a whole workshop devoted just to Elder and still only scratch the surface of the good things this wonderful plant ally brings to us 💚

I am loving the blossoming elderflowers this season in my garden 🥰 It’s tempting to use the flowers but my plants are still small so I am saving the flowers so I get elderberries later 💜

Sharing some of the beauty of my beach walk today. The wind, waves, sun, and salt are so good for the mind, body, spirit, and heart 🩵💚🤍💛

Be sure to make time to be in nature and care for your health. This is so much more important when the world is stressful and uncertain! Take a few minutes (or longer!) to listen to the breeze, the birds, the waves, or whatever nature sounds you have around and focus on the moment. Breath deeply and slowly and just be present. Do this a few times a day for optimum benefit 🧡
