Are you reading this while slouching? (Go ahead, sit up straight—we all do it!)
If you spend your days working at a desk, driving, or scrolling on your phone, you probably know the feeling: a nagging ache between your shoulder blades and a stubborn, tight knot at the base of your neck.
In my world, we call this Upper Cross Syndrome.
When we lean forward for hours at a time, two things happen at once:
The Front Tightens: Your chest muscles shorten and pull your shoulders forward.
The Back Overworks: Your mid-back muscles get overstretched and weak, losing the structural stamina to fight gravity.
Next thing you know, you have chronic trigger points, tension headaches, and exhaustion by 3:00 PM.
As both a Licensed Massage Therapist and a Personal Trainer, I treat this from two essential angles: release and rebuild.
Massage acts as the reset button—opening up that locked, tight chest tension and soothing the aching mid-back. From there, targeted strength training anchors the change, waking up and reinforcing those weak back muscles so they can actually support your posture.
You can't stretch away a weakness, and you can't strengthen a locked muscle. You need both to break the cycle.
If your back and neck are constantly shouting at you, let's stop managing the symptoms and fix the root cause.
