UN Women defines Period Poverty as the inability to afford and access menstrual products, sanitation and hygiene facilities and education and awareness to manage menstrual health (UN Women, 2025). We hope the stats we shared during Period Poverty Awareness Week this month were an eye-opener for you. This is an issue happening right here in our community.

With your continuous support, Emerald Coast Period Pantry has been able to help combat this issue by providing free menstrual products to our pantries in Fort Walton Beach, Valparaiso, Crestview, Navarre, and Pensacola. This wouldn’t be possible without your help, and we want to say a big thank you to all of those that have supported us!

🩸PERIOD POVERTY AWARENESS WEEK: DAYS 4-5🩸

Your period can cost $30–75 EVERY MONTH.

That’s:
🍕 pizza night
🥚 eggs + bread + milk
🌮 taco ingredients
🍌 200 bananas
🛒 a week of groceries

Periods aren’t a luxury.

They’re a recurring expense half the population can’t opt out of.

The reality is that some menstruators can afford that, but many can't.

You can help by purchasing from the wishlist on our website (link in the bio) or bringing products straight to a pantry (locations on our website).

🩸 PERIOD POVERTY AWARENESS WEEK: DAY 3 🩸

The Emerald Coast is known for its beautiful waters and sunny skies.

Did you know that period poverty is prevalent in your backyard oasis?

Period poverty affects students, the unhoused, and low-income workers -- right here in your beachside community.

Of the 4.4 million women aged 12-44 that live in Florida, 1 in 7 live below the Federal Poverty Line. Sometimes that means choosing between food and period products, which is a decision no one should have to make.

That's why Emerald Coast Period Pantry has 11 free period pantries and counting -- from Crestview, down to Fort Walton Beach, and over to Pensacola.

Find our complete list of locations on our website in the link in our bio!

🩸 PERIOD POVERTY AWARENESS WEEK: DAY 2🩸

❌ According to , 78% of students are taught more about the biology of frogs than the human female body in school.
❌ 74% of students have questions about their periods.
❌ 40% of students have worn period products for longer than recommended.

This. is. unacceptable.

Emerald Coast Period Poverty has clocked the inequality and done something about it.

🩸 PERIOD POVERTY AWARENESS WEEK: DAY 1 🩸

This year, we're dedicating period poverty awareness week to educating our community on what period poverty is and how you can help.

To open up the week, here's a spoken word poem written and read by our founder, Samantha Sanabria.

Can we all agree to unite in this fight to destigmatize menstruation and work toward addressing period poverty?

If so, comment below "I'm in!"

This week, we’re highlighting the Panhandle Women’s Project, a community partner of the Emerald Coast Period Pantry. This student-led (yes, it’s led by students!) nonprofit aims to make a positive impact and celebrate women within the Florida Panhandle.

PWP has done this through events such as…
•Women’s marches
•Donation drives
•Career and interview readiness workshops
•Sex-ed classes
•Free SAT tutoring for underprivileged students

Last year, the Panhandle Women’s Project hosted a donation drive for Emerald Coast Period Pantry, with a goal of 1,000 period products for our pantries. With their hard work, dedication, and passion to serve the community, they collected over 2,500 products for us!

Please visit and learn how you can get involved/donate! 🤍🩵

(And a special thank you to the ladies of the project for all they do! You’re amazing!)
