You can be perfect with SPF and still age faster after 40.
As we move through our 30s, 40s and beyond, what’s happening inside the body starts showing up on the outside.
Inflammaging is chronic, low-grade systemic inflammation that tends to increase with age. It is not visible redness. It is persistent inflammatory signaling happening throughout the body, and perimenopause tends to turn the volume up on it.
Hormonal shifts. Sleep. Metabolic health. Nutrition. Muscle mass. Chronic inflammation. All of these can influence the environment your skin is trying to function in.
Healthy aging skin is both outside-in AND inside-out.
I still believe in sunscreen. Retinoids. Lasers. Biostimulators. Regenerative treatments. Those things matter.
The good news is that inside-out levers are unglamorous and available. Sleep. Protein and plants. Resistance training. Steadier glucose. Omega 3s. Fewer inflammatory exposures. And if you are symptomatic in perimenopause, hormone therapy is worth a real conversation with a clinician who treats it.
