Rutledge Cancer Foundation

Rutledge Cancer Foundation Rutledge Cancer Foundation works to ease the impact of cancer on the lives of teens and young adults, raise survival rates and find a cure.

Carleyโ€™s Story:

In the summer of 2009, Carley Rutledge, a healthy, athletic 15 year-old, began experiencing mysterious pain in her lower back. Months of doctor visits and physical therapy sessions followed, as her condition was erroneously thought to be muscular and treatable. Carley tolerated and at times ignored the persistent pain, persevering through sports and other physical activities hopin

g the condition would resolve itself, but it never did. Finally in April 2010, Carley received an MRI and a shocking diagnosis: Stage IV Ewing Sarcoma. Because her tumor was without the option of surgery, the doctors at Cook Childrenโ€™s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, immediately began chemotherapy treatments, followed by 43 days of radiation treatment in MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas. Carley was able to complete her senior year and graduate with her classmates and is currently attending college in Colorado. However, the sobering truth is that the incidence of recurrence of most AYA cancer is high, with few options for effective treatment. This is why Carley, her family and friends knew in order to increase awareness, improve treatment and cure rates knew they had to help make a difference for all those adolescents and young adults and their families afflicted with this terrible disease.

Today, we honor David Wyatt Donahue on his heavenly birthday. ๐Ÿ’›

Wyattโ€™s love for life, unwavering loyalty, and deep compassion left a powerful impact on everyone who knew him. In his memory, his parents established a fund that provides travel scholarships to โ€”a life-changing adventure camp for young adults impacted by cancer. Through kayaking, rock climbing, surfing, and more, participants are empowered to reclaim joy, build connections, and thrive beyond their diagnosis!

Weโ€™re so grateful to Wyattโ€™s parents for continuing his legacy and making it possible for our patients and survivors to create unforgettable memories. ๐ŸŒŸ

The Rutledge Cancer Foundation was honored to be selected by TCU โ€“ Texas Christian University Honors Collegeโ€™s โ€œPhilanthropy & Givingโ€ class to receive a $9,000 grant award.

Throughout the semester, students evaluated 85 nonprofits through research, presentations, site visits, reports, and a 10-hour class debate before selecting just 10 organizations for funding!

We were especially moved by the students who connected personally to our mission through their own experiences with cancer and passionately advocated for adolescents and young adults facing cancer.

Thank you to the students and donors for investing in our mission and helping us continue supporting AYA cancer patients and their families!

During his cancer journey, music brought him peace - and now, his memory brings that same comfort to others. Each stocking that is given during the holidays to newly diagnosed patients includes a Bluetooth speaker, generously donated by his family, in his honor!

Tateโ€™s light lives on in every note. ๐ŸŽถ

Behind every brave smile is a battle most people never see. ๐Ÿ’› More than half of adolescents and young adults facing cancer also struggle with mental health challenges alongside their diagnosis.

This , letโ€™s break the silence.
Check in. Listen louder. Support deeper. Speak up more!

Because no one should have to fight cancer โ€” or the emotional weight that comes with it , alone. ๐ŸŽ—๏ธโœจ
