Rutledge Cancer Foundation

Rutledge Cancer Foundation Rutledge Cancer Foundation works to ease the impact of cancer on the lives of teens and young adults, raise survival rates and find a cure.

Carleyโ€™s Story:

In the summer of 2009, Carley Rutledge, a healthy, athletic 15 year-old, began experiencing mysterious pain in her lower back. Months of doctor visits and physical therapy sessions followed, as her condition was erroneously thought to be muscular and treatable. Carley tolerated and at times ignored the persistent pain, persevering through sports and other physical activities hopin

g the condition would resolve itself, but it never did. Finally in April 2010, Carley received an MRI and a shocking diagnosis: Stage IV Ewing Sarcoma. Because her tumor was without the option of surgery, the doctors at Cook Childrenโ€™s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, immediately began chemotherapy treatments, followed by 43 days of radiation treatment in MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas. Carley was able to complete her senior year and graduate with her classmates and is currently attending college in Colorado. However, the sobering truth is that the incidence of recurrence of most AYA cancer is high, with few options for effective treatment. This is why Carley, her family and friends knew in order to increase awareness, improve treatment and cure rates knew they had to help make a difference for all those adolescents and young adults and their families afflicted with this terrible disease.

๐Ÿงฌ THE FUTURE WE'RE FUNDING

What if the next breakthrough in cancer treatment didn't come from stronger chemotherapyโ€”but from the body's own immune system?

Rutledge Cancer Foundation is proud to support the ACES Research Grant, advancing a first-of-its-kind immunotherapy vaccine approach for relapsed and metastatic Ewing sarcoma.

Every breakthrough starts with one bold idea. We're proud to invest in the researchers working to make tomorrow's treatments smarter, more targeted, and more effective.

๐Ÿ’› Because every Adolescent and Young Adult deserves more tomorrows.

Meet Our Keynote Speaker: Dr. Brian Ladle, MD, PhD
We're honored to welcome Dr. Brian Ladle of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine as the keynote speaker for our 15th Annual Hearts of Gold Dinner.

As the lead researcher of the groundbreaking ACES (Accelerating Cures for Ewing Sarcoma) grant, Dr. Ladle is leading a first-of-its-kind effort to develop a personalized immunotherapy vaccine for patients with metastatic, relapsed, and treatment-resistant Ewing sarcomaโ€”offering new hope where few treatment options exist. In addition to caring for children and young adults with sarcoma and other rare cancers, he leads pioneering research focused on transforming the future of pediatric cancer care!

His keynote presentation,"A Cure for Ewing Sarcoma: Could a Personalized Vaccine Therapy Be the Next Breakthrough?" He will provide an inside look at one of the most promising advances in Ewing sarcoma research and what it could mean for patients and families around the world!

Join us on September 24 at Cullen Yards as we celebrate 15 years of raising hope, advancing cures, and investing in the breakthroughs that are changing lives.
