We talk a lot about menopause.

But not enough about what hormones are quietly affecting behind the scenes.
Sleep
Mood.
Anxiety.
Libido.
Vaginal tissue health.
Bladder health.
Confidence.
Connection.

Progesterone, estrogen, testosterone… these aren’t optional.
They affect how we feel in our bodies every single day.

And when those hormones shift?
Everything downstream can shift too.

No, it’s not “just aging.”
Your body is communicating.

The question is whether anyone taught you how to listen.

One thing I say often to women:

If s*x is uncomfortable, painful, or your body isn’t responding the way it used to…

of course you don’t want to do it.

And I need more women to hear this:

That does not mean something is wrong with you.

It means your brain is doing exactly what it’s designed to do.

We are wired to avoid pain.

In this episode of Hotness, we talk about what hormonal changes in midlife can do to the body—and why so many women have been taught to normalize symptoms they should actually understand.

Pain is information.

Not something to quietly tolerate.

One thing I wish more women heard:

Your body may be different.

But different does not mean broken.

Hormonal changes can affect vaginal tissues, bladder function, pelvic floor health, comfort, pleasure, and desire.

That's real.

And it's also something we can talk about.

This conversation with Julie Bottarini explores how communication, hormone support, pelvic health, and self-awareness can help women continue to experience intimacy in ways that feel good and aligned with where they are now.

Your body still works.

It may simply need a different approach.

One of my favorite moments from this conversation:

learning how connected everything really is.

Your pelvic floor doesn't work in isolation.

It works with your breath.
Your diaphragm.
Your core.
Your abdominal muscles.

They're all part of the same team.

Which means that improving pelvic health isn't always about doing more Kegels.

Sometimes it's about understanding how your body works together.

Julie Bottarini shares practical insights that every woman should know.

Most women have heard of the pelvic floor.

Far fewer know what it actually does.

Your pelvic floor isn't just one muscle.

It's a group of muscles that supports your pelvic organs, helps with bladder and bowel function, contributes to s*xual health, and works as part of your core.

In this week's episode of Hotness, pelvic health physical therapist Julie Bottarini helps us understand why these muscles matter so much—and why they deserve more attention than they typically get.

Because understanding your body is never a bad place to start.

Some of my best thinking doesn’t happen when I’m trying to think.

It happens when I write.

Journaling helps me slow down long enough to notice what’s actually going on beneath the surface.

The question I’m asking.
The feeling I’m avoiding.
The idea that’s been quietly trying to get my attention.

No fancy system.

Just a notebook, a pen, and a few minutes of honesty.

It’s one of the simplest habits I have—and one of the most valuable.

Also much cheaper than therapy.

Though I still believe in therapy. 😄

Throwback to one of my more ambitious packing projects.

The plan was simple:

Use the 5-4-3-2-1 packing method.
Pack efficiently.
Stay organized.

Then I started adding things. 😄

To be fair, I was packing for three different destinations:

📍 Bay Area office time
📍 A Caribbean medical conference where I was on faculty
📍 Argentina, where fall weather likes to keep you guessing

Warm.
Cold.
Rainy.
Sunny.

Possibly all in the same day.

After years of travel, I’m still convinced packing is an advanced life skill that no one actually masters.

Every trip teaches me something new.

This trip’s lesson:
Apparently one suitcase is expected to contain a physician, a conference speaker, a tango dancer, and an Argentina-loving traveler.

We’ll see how that goes. 😄

This may surprise you but

dating isn't really about finding someone else.

At least not entirely.

For me, it's been a masterclass in reconnecting with myself.

Learning my value.

Trusting my instincts.

Getting clear on what I want—and what I don't.

The beautiful thing about dating in midlife is that there's less pressure and more perspective.

You don't have to rush.

You don't have to force.

You can be discerning.

And that's a gift.
