Sometimes the best way to understand the difference compassionate, personalized healthcare can make is to hear it directly from the person who experienced it.
Meet Robert Taylor Jr.
While undergoing treatment for stage four pancreatic cancer, Robert was unexpectedly diagnosed with diabetes after his blood sugar reached 420. Suddenly, in the middle of an already overwhelming health journey, he had another diagnosis to understand, new medications to manage and an entirely new way of life to learn.
That journey brought him to Southside Diabetes & Integrated Care.
Robert talks openly about the education, patience and personal support he received from our team, from learning how to manage diabetes and use his insulin pump to having someone there when neuropathy made even the smallest tasks difficult.
For Robert, that support became something much bigger than an appointment.
“It was just one less thing that I had to worry about.”
He describes Southside Diabetes as a “safe haven” during one of the most difficult periods of his life, a place where he felt known, supported and cared for as a person rather than simply another patient.
Robert, thank you for trusting our team with your care and for being willing to share your story. Stories like yours are exactly why Southside Diabetes & Integrated Care is here.
If you’ve been putting off getting the care you need, Robert has some simple advice:
“You’ve got to at least try.”
