Team eyeliner and lots of mascara, or team false lashes and minimal liner? šŸ‘€

When I first started in makeup 100 (okay, 13 šŸ˜‰) years ago, it was all about lots of liner and lots of lash. These days, I’d say 99% of my clients prefer a softer look—minimal liner paired with a natural lash strip or a few clusters.

Personally, I’m not a cluster girl… but that’s a conversation for another day.

For most event makeup, I reach for Jane Iredale Topaz Mystikol Cream Liner and create the tiniest smoked-out wing—just enough to disguise the lash band while keeping everything soft and natural.

And can we talk about this bridal glam? šŸ¤ I’m so excited for this beauty’s wedding day. Natural, timeless, and effortlessly polished.

Now I need to know—what’s your preference for event makeup? Lots of liner and mascara, or lashes with barely-there liner?

I grew up in the ’90s, so naturally when we bought our first home, I made it as maximalist as possible. Every inch of wall space had something on it. I used to shop simply because I liked something, without really thinking about whether I needed it or where it would go.

Over the past few years, I’ve worked hard to transform not only our home, but also my mindset. These days, I try to buy with intention—either because I truly need something or because I already know exactly how I’ll use it. I follow a one-in, one-out rule, especially when it comes to my closet.

Letting things go was difficult at first. I always worried that if I got rid of something, I’d never be able to replace it. But I’ve learned that if I wasn’t using it to begin with, I can probably live without it.

This past year, I’ve also been focusing on being a better steward of what God has already blessed us with. I think the constant desire for more can keep us from fully appreciating—or even taking care of—the things we already have.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Shopping will probably always be one of my favorite hobbies, and I still have moments when I overbuy. But growth isn’t perfection. It’s learning, adjusting, and making small changes over time. When I look back at the last few years, I can see that growth little by little, and I’m grateful for it.

Where are you at in your journey? Are you feeling exhausted by overconsumption? What helps you keep your home, heart, and mind in check? šŸ¤
