✨The story behind Saving Grace Counseling✨

SGC began with a vision placed on the heart of founder Holly Barruso — to create a space where individuals could experience counseling that is both clinically excellent and deeply rooted in God’s truth.

Through nearly 20 years of experience in the counseling field, Holly recognized a consistent gap— many people were seeking help, but often felt like they had to choose between receiving professional, evidence-based care and staying grounded in their faith.

By combining her education as a marriage and family therapist, her experience across a variety of clinical settings, and her training as a Biblical counselor, Holly stepped out in faith in 2018 to begin her private practice. With a personal testimony of how God’s grace restored her own marriage and transformed her family, the name Saving Grace Counseling was born!

In the summer of 2022, Holly took another step of faith by hiring her first team member to serve the growing number of clients seeking care. Today, that step has grown into a team of 11 counselors who all share the same foundation — that Jesus is the true source of healing — and who seek to honor Him in every session and with every client

We are honored to serve you!

In today’s world, many therapy approaches focus solely on traditional psychotherapy models, addressing a person’s thoughts, behaviors, and emotional regulation. While those tools are valuable, we believe they are only part of the picture.

True healing happens when we care for the whole person — mind, body, and spirit. That’s why we don’t separate faith from the counseling process. Instead, we take joy in integrating evidence-based practices with unwavering biblical truth, helping clients experience not just relief, but lasting transformation rooted in who God is and who He says we are.

We believe that keeping Jesus at the center of the counseling process is essential, allowing clients to experience a depth of healing that goes beyond what clinical tools alone can provide!

We care about your heart, mind, soul, and faith! Don’t hesitate to reach out today to start the process.🤍

Trauma isn’t just something you “think” about—it’s something your body remembers.

You might notice it as:
• feeling on edge or easily overwhelmed
• shutting down or going numb
• tension you can’t seem to release

That’s because trauma is stored in the nervous system—not just the mind.

At Saving Grace Counseling, we use approaches like somatic therapy and brainspotting to help gently process trauma at a deeper level.

🧠 Brainspotting helps access and process trauma by using where you look to connect to how you feel.

🌿 Somatic therapy focuses on body awareness to release stored stress and restore a sense of safety.

Instead of only talking about what happened, we help your body:
✨ feel safe again
✨ release stored stress
✨ move toward true healing

You don’t have to stay stuck in survival mode. Healing is possible. Reach out to us to schedule!

➡️ WHY AN INTENSIVE?

Intensive sessions are intended to be longer than the usual one hour session for couples who feel they are needing the extra time and attention. As a result, these sessions are typically immediately impactful and bring positive change more rapidly.

There is also the benefit of having two counselors present, who as a married couple themselves, are sympathetic to the needs of both husbands and wives. As a result, clients come away feeling the sessions are more fair and balanced.

In their 28 years as a married couple Joe and Holly have experienced nearly every possible problem and challenge imaginable. As counselors, they freely share their testimony of God’s healing to provide hope to couples who may be struggling!

Warmer weather, different pressures?

In Anjelica’s work with clients experiencing eating disorders, disordered eating, body image distress, and self-esteem struggles, we focus on both insight and practical tools. This can include noticing patterns, identifying the emotions driving food-related behaviors, challenging distorted beliefs about worth and appearance, and building safer ways to regulate anxiety, shame, and control.

We also explore identity beyond appearance—what it means to be seen, known, and valued outside of performance or perfection. For many clients, faith is an important part of that healing process, as they reconnect with truth, grace, and a sense of being deeply loved even in the areas of themselves they struggle to accept.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. We go at your own pace and we work toward more freedom, not more pressure! 🙌🏼

A lot of people are talking to AI about their feelings right now…

And while that can feel helpful in the moment—
it’s not the same as being known by a real person.

Therapy offers something different:
- relationship where someone is actually attuned to you
- a space where your personal patterns are noticed
- the ability to be challenged in ways that help you grow
- emotional safety that is built over time, not just given instantly
- a real human connection that signals safety to your nervous system

AI can respond.
But it can’t sit with you.
It can’t feel with you.
It can’t truly know you.

➡️ Research consistently shows that the relationship between a client and therapist is one of the strongest predictors of healing.

Healing doesn’t just come from information—
it comes from relationship.
You deserve to be understood. 🤍

A reminder today that GOD IS NOT DONE!!!

“And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

“I know what I should do… I just can’t do it.”

If that’s you, you’re not lazy—you may be overwhelmed.
When your nervous system is overloaded, even simple tasks can feel impossible.

That doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means may need support, not pressure.

Instead of pushing harder, try this:
→ Lower the bar
→ Pick one small step to focus on next
→ Find a margin of time to rest

Sometimes we think we need to do more, but often we need to come back to a slower, steadier pace.
Scripture reminds us that God meets us in our weakness, not just our strength (2 Corinthians 12:9).

So today, instead of asking,
“How do I fix everything?” “How do I do it all?”
Try asking,
“What is one small step I can take with God today?”

Small steps still matter.

If the load is too heavy, know that you have a Helper. We’d also love to help ease the burden at through a quick call or email to get started!

As the weather warms up, many people notice body image thoughts, comparison, and food-related anxiety start to increase.

One trend that can quietly fuel this?
“What I Eat in a Day” videos.

While they may seem harmless—or even helpful—they often:
• Promote comparison rather than connection to your own body
• Normalize restriction or unrealistic portions
• Ignore individual needs (your body is not theirs)
• Reinforce the idea that there’s a “right” way to eat

The truth is: your body’s needs are unique. And your worth is not determined by what you eat in a day.

If you’ve noticed these videos impacting your relationship with food or your body, it might be worth taking a step back from that content—and leaning into support instead.

At Saving Grace Counseling, we’re here to help you build a more peaceful, sustainable relationship with food, your body, and yourself. 🤍
