🕊️ TENNESSEE LOST A TREASURE TODAY. THE WORLD LOST AN ICON. 🕊️
Today we say goodbye to Dolly Parton — a woman who came from the mountains of East Tennessee and somehow found her way into the hearts of people all over the world.
Dolly was so much more than a country music legend.
She was a songwriter, entertainer, actress, businesswoman, philanthropist, dreamer, and humanitarian — but through all of her incredible success, she never forgot where she came from.
She represented so much of what makes Tennessee special: faith, family, humility, determination, generosity, humor, and the belief that no dream is too big — no matter how small the place you started.
From the Smoky Mountains to Nashville and eventually stages around the world, Dolly carried Tennessee with her everywhere she went.
Her music became the soundtrack to generations. Her generosity put books into the hands of millions of children. Her kindness crossed political, cultural, and generational lines. And somehow, despite becoming one of the most recognizable people on Earth, she always seemed like she still belonged to all of us here at home.
There will never be another Dolly Parton.
Today Tennessee should be incredibly proud of the woman we were fortunate enough to call one of our own.
Thank you, Dolly, for the music.
Thank you for the laughter.
Thank you for the generosity.
Thank you for never forgetting Tennessee.
Your light will continue to shine long after the rhinestones fade.
