Sometimes, seeing is what makes heart health feel real. 🔎

When patients can better understand what’s happening inside their coronary arteries, it can turn abstract numbers and risk factors into information they can actually use.

That knowledge can lead to better conversations with your care team, more informed decisions, and a clearer understanding of why prevention matters.

For Amy Ervin, that’s one of the most powerful parts of helping patients truly understand their heart health.

🔎 What can a Cleerly scan reveal about your heart? Part 3: Blood Flow

Finding plaque is important, but another critical question is: Is blood flowing adequately through your coronary arteries?

Advanced analysis can help assess the likelihood of ischemia, where the heart muscle may not be receiving enough blood flow. This adds another layer of information that can help your care team better understand what’s happening inside your coronary arteries and guide next steps.

Because when it comes to prevention, the goal isn’t simply to collect more information. It’s to better understand what that information means for your heart.

Stay tuned for Part 4.

🏈 Young Heart Group is proud to play a leading role in research that could help shape the future of cardiovascular care for former professional athletes.

As the leading center in the country for the GAMEFILM Registry study, our team has had the opportunity to help researchers better understand cardiovascular risk among former professional athletes. Findings from the study have also been published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, helping bring these important insights to the broader cardiovascular community.

And now, GAMEFILM is expanding. The study is open to former NFL, NHL, MLB, and NBA players, as well as professional athletic staff associated with NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA, and U.S. college teams.

For Dr. Kevin Young and our team, being part of GAMEFILM is about more than research. It’s an opportunity to advance early detection and help improve cardiovascular care for current and future generations of athletes and athletic professionals.

Sometimes, understanding your cardiovascular health means looking beyond the heart itself. 🔎

A Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT) test is a safe, non-invasive ultrasound that measures the inner layers of the carotid arteries in your neck. It can help identify early changes associated with cardiovascular disease and give your care team another piece of the picture when evaluating your risk.

Andrew Simms, Nurse Practitioner at Young Heart Group, walks through how the test works and what we’re looking for.

Because the earlier we understand what’s happening in your arteries, the sooner we can make informed decisions about your heart health.

Before you read any further, take a guess: What is the leading cause of death among women?

Have your answer?

The answer is D: Cardiovascular disease.

Cardiovascular disease in women continues to be underestimated. Recent data shared in Circulation shows that cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death among women, accounting for 47.3% of total cardiovascular deaths in the U.S. Women also account for 57.5% of stroke deaths and 51.9% of hypertension deaths.

Yet gaps remain in prevention, recognition, diagnosis, treatment, and research.

These numbers are an important reminder that heart health is women’s health. Knowing your risk and taking a proactive approach to cardiovascular care matters at every stage of life.

🫀 Myth: If you exercise regularly, you don’t need cardiovascular testing.

Exercise is one of the best things you can do for your cardiovascular health, but being active doesn’t tell us everything about what may be happening inside your arteries.

That’s why understanding your individual risk factors, family history, and overall cardiovascular health still matters, even if you feel fit and exercise consistently.

Keep moving. Keep exercising. And remember that prevention is about understanding the full picture.

❤️ This World Heart Day, challenge what you think you know about your heart.

Heart disease can develop quietly, which is why feeling good or having no symptoms doesn’t always give you the full picture of your cardiovascular health.

Being proactive means looking beyond assumptions and understanding your personal risk, from family history and cholesterol to what may be happening inside your arteries.

The more you understand your heart today, the better equipped you are to protect it for the future.

🫀 Looking healthy and knowing your heart is healthy are not always the same thing.

Heart disease can develop silently, even in people who exercise regularly, feel great, and have no obvious symptoms.

That’s why preventive cardiology looks beyond how you feel today. Understanding your individual risk factors, family history, and what may be happening inside your arteries can provide a much clearer picture of your cardiovascular health.

Feeling good matters. Knowing your risk matters, too.
