This week, we attended the 3rd Annual Roundtable on Military Mothers' Mental Health hosted by the Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance at Arlington National Cemetery.

"Let the generations know that women in uniform also guaranteed their freedom." — Anne Sosh Brehm, 1st Lieutenant, US Army Nurse Corps, World War II

This includes the 227,114 active duty female service members and roughly 506,000 female active duty spouses. With 110K live births annually, OB is the busiest service line in military medicine.

Research proves that providing access to perinatal mental health care for military-connected mothers vastly improves mental and physical health outcomes.

We are now in network with Tricare East/Humana Military and Johns Hopkins USFHP. Active duty service members pay $0 for covered mental health care.

We recently sat down with insurance leaders, researchers, and advocates to talk about one thing: why it's still so hard for moms to get mental health care when they need it.

If you've ever tried to find a therapist during pregnancy or after having a baby and hit a wall with waitlists, insurance that doesn't cover it, providers who aren't trained in perinatal mental health, you already know the problem.

Or worse, if you just haven't even been asked how you're doing because everyone is concerned about the baby's health and has forgotten about mom, we see you.

It's not that support doesn't exist. It's that the systems around it make it hard to reach.

We're working toward a future where perinatal mental health care isn't something you have to fight for. It's a future where it's covered by insurance, where the provider you find is actually trained for this season of life, and where you can get help when you need it, not months later.

You shouldn't have to be an expert in healthcare policy just to get support for something this common. We're glad to be part of the conversation pushing that forward, but honestly, the real goal is just making sure it doesn't feel like a fight for the moms who need it.

We are proud to be contracted and in network with Tricare East/Humana Military 🇺🇸

This partnership will allow us to expand access to specialized perinatal mental health care for military families across DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

For some of our practitioners, this hits very close to home. Erika Robinson, LGSW is a military child, spouse, mom and now perinatal mental health therapist at Azalea, and knows what it feels like to fear for someone you love who is deployed.

She said, 'I have felt that fear as a child worried about a parent, and as a spouse worried about my husband. I have sat with a new mother who gave birth to her first child while the baby’s father was deployed, in harm’s way, and unable to even be notified that his first child had entered the world. I know the heartbreak, strength, and silence that can exist in those moments. Maternal mental health care for military families matters so deeply to me, because when mothers can receive care that is timely, culturally informed, and truly supportive, the whole family system is strengthened."

Thank you to Erika and your family for your service. Deep gratitude to everyone who helped make this possible. We are honored to serve those who serve.

We just found out Azalea Mental Health has been nominated for a SASS Choice Award. It means a lot when the nomination comes from the moms, families, and community we work with every day.

This is a reminder that the work our clinicians do, showing up for moms in the hardest, most disorienting seasons of motherhood, is being seen and valued by the people who matter most: you.

If you'd like to support us, voting is open now through July 20th. You can vote once a day.

Thank you for being part of our story as we continue to show up for our clients each and every day.

Huge win for moms in Maryland this week!

Our founder and clinical director, Mary, was proud to be alongside perinatal mental health colleagues as signed a very important bill into law that helps women get the care that they deserve.

This law means Maryland insurers must cover perinatal mental health screenings, standardized tools will be implemented statewide, and a positive screen will now lead to a real next step through one year postpartum. Licensed providers will be required to know what to do when a mother says she is not okay.

Thank you to bill sponsors and , coalition leaders Claire Ernst, Mikah Goldman Berg, Kyra Vocci, Ana Rodney, Lauren Thompson, and the organizations that made this happen, .

We are proud to serve Maryland moms alongside you!
