🍋 When life gives you a lemon tree… you wait 3 years for the lemons! 😂🌱

Our greenhouse lemon tree at ClearView Communities is absolutely loaded with Meyer lemons, and they’re finally ready to harvest!

This has been a three-year labor of love. It all started with a very sad-looking stick from Walmart that cost just $1. Honestly, there may have been a little overconfidence involved in thinking we could grow citrus! 😅

Last year, we finally got a few tiny green lemons. We even wondered if we’d accidentally bought a lime tree! Unfortunately, a scale infestation took out that harvest.

But we didn’t give up! Residents and staff have been checking on the tree every week, keeping an eye on what it needs, and helping it thrive. And now… look at all those lemons! 🍋💛

It’s a fun reminder that good things sometimes take time, patience, and a little TLC.

Want to pick one for yourself? If you’re visiting, feel free to stop by our greenhouse deck and harvest a fresh Meyer lemon straight from the tree!

Amber has been part of the ClearView team since 2024, and her colleagues consistently recognize her dedication, collaboration, and willingness to go the extra mile for our residents.

“Amber has been so helpful in stepping in to assist with disposition planning for our residents. ClearView Communities would be lost without her!”

Amber has also been working closely with residents to strengthen their budgeting skills, an important step toward greater independence. This work involves collaboration with residential staff, the treatment team, and families to navigate complex situations, gather necessary information, and help residents develop the practical skills they need for the future.

At ClearView Communities, occupational therapy goes beyond traditional therapy sessions. It’s about helping residents build the everyday skills and confidence needed to live more independently.

💜 Wearing Purple for Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

A little purple can make a powerful statement! 💜

Our therapist, Sheila Ervin, and Occupational Therapist, Megan McNeece, showed their support by wearing purple to work in recognition of October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Domestic violence awareness is an important reminder that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported. By wearing purple, we help bring visibility to this important cause and show our support for survivors.

Movement, wellness, and community connection all come together in our YMCA group! 🏊‍♀️🏀💪

Each week, residents visit the YMCA to access a variety of wellness spaces and activities . From fitness equipment and swimming to basketball, cycling, and group fitness classes.

It’s a great opportunity to explore different ways of moving, build healthy routines, and connect with wellness resources in the community.

🌿🪴 Good company, creativity, and a little greenery!

We had such a wonderful morning in the ClearView Communities greenhouse last Friday! We welcomed local mental health professionals for a relaxed networking event filled with succulent planting, tea, light snacks, and plenty of great conversation.

It was a lovely opportunity to step away from the usual routine, get creative, and connect with others who are passionate about supporting mental health and wellness. 🌱☕

A huge thank you to everyone who attended! We loved spending the morning with you and are grateful for the connections we continue to build within our community.

Fresh air, farm animals, nature, and connection — that’s Thorpewood Farm! 🐴🌿☀️

Each Friday, residents head to the beautiful Thorpewood property in Thurmont, MD for hands-on experiences that may include meeting gentle farm animals, fishing, exploring natural healing spaces, and enjoying the outdoors together.

There’s something special about connecting with nature, slowing down, and learning through experience.

Our residents got out and explored this weekend with trips to Crystal Grottoes Caverns and the Smithsonian’s National Zoo. 🦇🐼

Two very different adventures, lots to see, and plenty of time to laugh, explore, and enjoy being out together.

We love getting out of the house, trying something new, and making some good memories along the way. 🌿

We try to build a mix of activities into each month. Some that are about everyday independence, like grocery shopping and navigating the community, and others that are simply about getting outside, trying something new, and having fun.

October definitely gives us plenty of opportunities for all three. 🍂

We can't wait to see what our residents think of this month's lineup!

🍁✨ We had a pretty great fall evening at ClearView!

Last Friday, our residents and staff got together in the greenhouse to celebrate the Fall Equinox.

Our residents helped plan and decorate the space, and it looked so cozy and festive. We had all the important fall things — hot apple c***r, seasonal mocktails, homemade desserts, music, and even a leaf lantern craft.

Later in the evening, we gathered around the campfire while Laura shared some seasonal stories. 🔥

There was a lot of talking, laughing, creating, eating, and just enjoying being together.

We love these seasonal gatherings because they aren't just something staff plans for our residents. Our residents are part of making them happen — choosing ideas, decorating, preparing food, creating activities, and helping bring the whole evening together.

And sometimes, it's nice to just have a fun night together. ❤️

A big thank you to everyone who helped make our Fall Equinox Garden Party such a memorable one!

🍽️ What does a typical week of dinner look like at ClearView Communities?

It looks a lot like real life.

Each of our houses has 8 private bedrooms, and every Sunday, the residents sit down together to plan their menu for the week.

They decide what they want to eat.
They choose the ingredients.
And each night, a different resident takes the lead in cooking the meal they chose.

But no one does it alone.

Residents help each other chop vegetables, prepare ingredients, set the table, cook, serve, and clean up afterward. They’re learning how to work together, make healthy choices, follow a recipe, try new foods, and take responsibility for their home.

And then comes Thursday.

After a week of planning, cooking, and working together, Thursday is Community Dinner. A chance to head downtown to a local Frederick restaurant, enjoy a meal together, and spend some time out in the community.

It's a simple example of something we do every day at ClearView Communities: Learn it on campus. Practice it at home. Use it in the community.

Because real-world independence doesn't mean having a chef cook every meal for you or going out to eat every night. It means knowing how to plan a meal, make healthy choices, prepare your own food, clean up afterward, and enjoy the experience along the way.

And sometimes, independence looks like making dinner with your housemates, laughing in the kitchen, and sitting down together to enjoy something you made yourselves. ❤️

That's community integration at ClearView Communities.
