Week 1:
Diaphragmatic Breathing x 10+ deep breaths
Towel feathering/ Light touch to abdominals x1-3 mins

Been told you need surgery for endometriosis?

We know how nerve wracking this process can be. Starting pelvic floor PT before your surgery, even if it is only 1 or 2 visits, can make a significant difference in how prepared you feel going in and how smoothly your recovery starts.

Here is what we cover in pre-surgical sessions at pelvRX:

✦ Assess your baseline pelvic floor and abdominal tension so we have a clear comparison point after surgery
✦ Walk through what post-op discomfort may look like and how it can impact your daily function
✦ Talk through the importance of early movement in the first few weeks after surgery
✦ Build a home plan you can start during the first two weeks of recovery

Think of it like pre-hab before a shoulder! You go into surgery prepared, we know your baseline, and recovery has a clear starting point.
It is a no brainer!

The idea of tearing during childbirth can be terrifying and for good reason! There are 4 degrees of tearing, 1 being the least severe, 4 being the most severe.

While we cannot completely reduce this risk and it is very common, we can help reduce the risk of severe tears (grade 3-4) by performing what’s called perineal massage starting between weeks 34-36 weeks of pregnancy.

Our goal is to help stretch the tissues that baby has to pass through during a vaginal birth and a pelvic wand can be a great tool to help achieve this! Sometimes baby bump still gets in the way of reaching, so using your partner if you’re comfortable with this can be helpful.

To do this, insert the pelvic wand or finger into the vaginal region, up to about the first knuckle. Then pull the wand or your finger to the side working your way from 3:00-9:00. Perform this 3-4x/week, holding at least 1 min in each direction. The pelvic wand from is shown in this video.

Hip mobility during labor is more important than most people realize.

Rotating your hips internally and externally helps open the pelvic inlet and outlet, giving baby the space to shimmy down through the pelvis. When hip mobility is limited, so is that movement.

This is why we assess hip mobility at every prenatal session at pelvRX.

If certain positions are uncomfortable, we find alternatives that work for your body and give you a home exercise program so you are walking into your birth prepared and confident.
