Top experts presented at UCSF Fresno’s 21st Annual Cardiology in the Valley Symposium on Saturday. They addressed cardiac pacing and defibrillators, cardiac transplantation, the future of percutaneous coronary intervention and bypass surgery, and genetics in diagnosis and therapy.

The goal of the annual Cardiology in the Valley Symposium is to improve regional heart health by equipping clinicians with the latest information on cardiovascular care, treatments and emerging therapeutics.

UCSF Fresno’s Department of Medicine includes fellowship training in Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging, Cardiovascular Disease, and Interventional Cardiology.

Nearly 1 in 3 U.S. adults aren’t getting enough sleep, according to a new CDC report. Lourdes DelRosso, MD, with UCSF Fresno and Inspire Health Medical Group says community support, stress, and underlying sleep disorders may all play a role. Prioritizing sleep is essential to our health. 💤

The CDC report shows that in 2024, roughly 30.5% of adults slept less than seven hours per night on average.

The Department of Surgery recently presented “Beyond the Scalpel: The Ethical Imperative of Trust in Surgery,” a lecture by Peter Angelos, MD, PhD, FACS, as part of its Kent Yamaguchi Endowed Lectureship.

Dr. Angelos is a recognized expert in medical ethics, and serves as associate director of the University of Chicago MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics. He has written widely on ethical issues in surgical practice and how to best teach medical ethics to surgical residents.

The Yamaguchi Lectureship was established to honor Dr. Yamaguchi’s enduring legacy of excellence in surgical care, education, mentorship, and humanism, and to enrich the educational experience of future surgeons through nationally recognized leaders in surgery.
