What does the MAT process look like?
After we understand your detailed health history, we will assess your ROM. Then we test the communication of the neuromuscular system to see where you are most vulnerable. Then we re-establish the lost communication & then re-rest to make sure it’s working well. Then we develop strengthening strategies to help improve that communication & continue to re-check to make sure we have good communication.

Frustrated by constant set backs? Tired of nagging injuries keeping you from training or exercising?

This is why this IronMan comes in for regular MAT. She used to have nagging pain and injuries that would stop her training. Now, she can train consistently because she gets her muscular system checked regularly before something happens!

“Every time I bend over or lean forward it hurts my back.”

That’s what a client told me just yesterday. I was demonstrating an exercise and that is what he told me. I showed him some things on how to hinge properly, and when he tried to do it, he was amazed & excited that his back & sciatic pain didn’t occur!

The combination of proper exercise technique, progression, & MAT are what changed my life from debilitating pain to being a pretty athletic 40+ year old. That’s why I dedicated my life to helping others feel the same!

Deadlifts!
I used to have debilitating back pain. I remember dreading having to sit down or bend over. I was even told by health professionals to keep my back straight up and not lean over.
Learning how to hinge in my hips was a major skill that has helped improve how my back feels. Most clients try to avoid leaning forward because they don’t know how to hinge at the hips.
Learning to hinge without bending at the spine and keeping posture will help your back feel better and will help your mobility long term.

Slow down & focus!

Your body is an amazing machine. It was built to do amazing things. But, it will not automatically use the muscle groups you want to train in compound exercises like squats shown here.
One of the ways I help people target their glutes more is by slowing them down and helping them feel and recruit more glutes. Your intention during the exercise is a huge factor in what can or does not get used more during an exercise.
So, next time you do an exercise, slow down and try try to engage the specific muscle(s) your wanting to target. Don’t count your reps as the goal, but get maximal fatigue from the specific area you want to improve.

How was your fitness this week?

If the week got away from you and you didn’t exercise much, it’s ok! Try to make plans for next week. Schedule your time to know where it’s going to be instead of letting another week go by!

Everybody loves to train abdominals!

The biggest technique change I need to make is usually about how fast a person is moving and how they are trying to move.

When we move fast, we start gaining momentum and we loose focus on contracting the targeted muscles and we can bring in muscles we are not wanting to train.

When clients do crunches, they hardly are moving their torso, but cranking out motion at their neck/shoulders (crunches), or they are driving their legs to get motion (reverse crunches).

Next time, try moving slow, & if your doing thoracic crunches (upper body moving), focus on the abs contracting, then moving the rib cage and the head/neck being dragged along!

Mix it up!

know what you’re doing when you change things up. When you do leg raises, changing your leg from neutral to in to out changes the muscle that is targeted. When your leg is straight, you’re getting a good mixture of all of your hip flexors with the restless for Morris being most aligned. When you turn your leg out, you begin to have the psoas/iliacus as the influencer. When you turn your leg in you target the TFL. When I do Muscle Activation Techniques, we can see which positions are more vulnerable than others and put more effort into strengthening one over the other.
