One of the best things you can do during pregnancy is take a birth education class.

Birth education isn’t just about memorizing stages of labor or creating the “perfect” birth plan. It’s about understanding what labor looks and feels like, learning your options, and building confidence in the process.

When you understand what’s happening to your body during labor, you’re often better equipped to work with it instead of feeling surprised or overwhelmed by it.

Our birth classes help you and your husband:

• Understand the physiology of labor and birth
• Learn comfort measures and coping techniques
• Explore informed decision-making
• Walk through a hospital transfer scenario
• Know what to expect during the postpartum period
•Prepare for breastfeeding

Out-of-hospital birth asks families to take an active role in their care. Education is a powerful part of that preparation.

Knowledge doesn’t eliminate every unknown, but it can replace fear with confidence and help you approach birth feeling informed, supported, and prepared.

The time you spend preparing for birth is never wasted. It is an investment in yourself, your baby, and your birth experience.

Postpartum rest does not need to be earned.

You do not have to prove you’re exhausted enough, productive enough, or struggling enough to deserve care after birth. Your body already did something extraordinary. Pregnancy, labor, birth, bleeding, hormone shifts, feeding a newborn, healing physically and emotionally — that is enough.

Rest is not laziness.

It is recovery.

The world often expects mothers to “bounce back” quickly, but postpartum was never meant to be rushed. You are allowed to slow down. To stay in bed longer. To let someone else cook the meal, fold the laundry, hold the baby while you shower, or simply sit beside you while you heal.

You do not have to earn softness.
You do not have to earn support.
You do not have to earn rest.

You already deserve it.

As the summer months approach remember that the
summer heat and pregnancy can be a hard combination.

During pregnancy, your body is already working harder — increasing blood volume, supporting your baby, regulating temperature, and keeping amniotic fluid levels healthy. Add summer heat, sweating, and time outdoors, and hydration becomes even more important.

Not getting enough fluids during pregnancy can lead to:
• Headaches
• Dizziness or lightheadedness
• Fatigue
• Braxton Hicks contractions
• Muscle cramps
• Dark urine
• Overheating
• Increased risk of heat exhaustion

One of the simplest ways to support your body this summer? Drink before you feel thirsty and aim for about a gallon of water a day. Additionally add lemon to your water, eat hydrating foods, rest often, and don’t ignore the signs your body is giving you.

It’s about being held, nourished, and healing while you fall in love with your baby

As we prepare to welcome new life, we’re also practicing surrender.

Praying the Surrender Novena leading up to birth is a gentle reminder that we do not carry this alone.

“O Jesus, I surrender myself to You, take care of everything.”

A prayer for peace, trust, and resting in God’s hands through every unknown…

So many new mothers think they’re failing during the first week of breastfeeding when in reality, much of what they’re experiencing is completely normal.

Can dad catch the baby?

Yes!

Not every father wants to—and that’s completely okay.

But many don’t even realize it’s something they can do.

With guidance from the midwife, some dads choose to reach down and receive their baby as they enter the world. And for many families, it becomes one of the most emotional and unforgettable moments of their lives.

You can see it all over their face:
The disbelief.
The joy.
The overwhelming love.
The realization that their baby is finally here.

Birth isn’t something fathers have to stand on the sidelines for.

They can support.
Encourage.
Pray.
Hold hands.
Advocate

And sometimes… catch their baby with their own two hands.
It’s such a beautiful reminder that birth is a family event, not just a medical one

Birth affirmations aren’t about pretending labor is easy.

They’re reminders.

Anchors.

Words to return to when intensity rises and confidence wavers.

Here are a few we love:
• My body was designed for birth.
• Each wave brings my baby closer to me.
• I can do hard things.
• I am safe, supported, and capable.
• My baby and I are working together.
• I do not need to fight my body.
• Birth unfolds best when I surrender.
• I am strong enough for this moment.
• My body knows what to do.
• God designed my body with wisdom and purpose.
• I am held and guided through this birth.
• God is present in every moment of labor.
• I can trust the design God created within me.
• Peace can exist even in intensity.

Whether written on notecards, spoken aloud by your support team, or whispered quietly to yourself between contractions—affirmations can help create calm, focus, and peace during labor.

Your first meal after birth matters more than most people realize…

After labor, your body has done intense physical and emotional work. Birth is transformative—and postpartum is a time for warmth, nourishment, rest, and recovery.

This is why many traditional cultures prioritize warm, healing foods in the hours and days after birth instead of cold, processed convenience foods.

Think:
• Bone broth
• Warm soups and stews
• Eggs
• Slow-cooked meats
• Rice, potatoes, oats
• Herbal teas
• Nutrient-dense meals prepared with care

These foods help replenish minerals, support healing, stabilize energy, and gently nourish a recovering body.

Of course there’s room for celebration foods too—but putting thought into your first postpartum meal is one simple way to honor the incredible work your body has just done.

Before birth, consider preparing a freezer meal that you can thaw during labor or planning something warm and nourishing ahead of time instead of defaulting to takeout in the exhaustion of those first hours.

Postpartum recovery deserves intention, too

Prenatal care is about so much more than routine checkups — it’s ongoing support, education, and compassionate care throughout your pregnancy journey.

At each visit, we take time to listen to your baby, check in on your physical and emotional well-being, talk about nutrition, answer your questions, and help you prepare for birth with confidence and peace of mind.

Midwifery care is deeply relationship-centered. There’s space to slow down, have meaningful conversations, process fears or concerns, and build trust with the people who will be supporting you through labor and birth.

Our model of care emphasizes education, informed choices, emotional support, and individualized care every step of the way.

Your appointments are never just about measurements and vitals — they’re about caring for you and your baby as unique individuals, with warmth, respect, and attention to the whole person
