Is your progesterone working?

It can be hard to track how your hormones are affecting your day-to-day life, but here are two major signs that your progesterone is doing its job effectively:

* You’re Sleeping Through the Night: Instead of waking up at 3:00 or 4:00 AM with a racing mind and a mental grocery list, you’re waking up feeling genuinely rested.
* You’re Less Reactive: You’re feeling less agitated, annoyed, and irritable, which means you’re far less likely to lose your cool over the small stuff.

Essentially, you feel more balanced and at ease in your daily life.

Have you noticed these shifts in your own routine? Let me know in the comments! 👇

Menopause isn’t a single event—it’s a journey.

From subtle cycle changes in your late reproductive years to the hormonal shifts of perimenopause and beyond, every stage brings its own experiences, challenges, and opportunities to support your health.

Understanding where you are on the menopause map can help you make sense of symptoms like irregular periods, mood changes, brain fog, hot flashes, sleep disturbances, and vaginal dryness.

Knowledge is power. The more you understand your body’s changing hormone patterns, the better equipped you are to navigate this transition with confidence and self-compassion.

Remember: every woman’s experience is unique. There’s no “right” way to go through menopause—only the way that’s right for you.

Stop guessing. Start testing.

The right blood work can uncover hidden issues before they turn into bigger problems — helping you save time, energy, and frustration.

Blood tests that catch problems so you don’t waste time:

- Ferritin
- Vitamin D
- ApoB
- CRP
- Insulin

Your symptoms are real. Your labs should tell the full story.

Raising strong girls means teaching them confidence, balance, and healthy habits — not perfection.

The conversations we have with our daughters today shape how they see themselves tomorrow. From protecting their health to building emotional resilience, these small lessons can make a lifelong impact.

Things I tell my teen daughter not to do:

1. Touch receipts because of BPA/toxins
2. Use makeup that is not clean
3. Drink soda/sugary drinks
4. Think being skinny = healthy. Lift Weights to be strong
5. Avoid being in the sun
6. Let social media convince you that every emotion is a disorder. Stress, boredom, awkwardness, heartbreak, and uncertainty are part of being human

If you’ve been prescribed oral progesterone for sleep or mood support, you might be wondering how soon you’ll feel a difference.

This is the initial window where most women begin to notice improvements in their sleep—finding it easier to both fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night.

While sleep benefits may kick in sooner, the full “calming” effects—including a reduction in feelings of agitation, irritability, and general moodiness—often become more apparent as you consistently use the medication over the first month.

What if you don’t feel a change? If you have passed the 30-day mark without feeling any difference, don’t get discouraged. It may simply mean your current dosage needs adjustment, or that a different form of progesterone could be more effective for your specific body.

Pro-Tip: If you are experiencing side effects, make sure to document them and bring them up during your next follow-up. Open communication with your healthcare provider is key to finding the right balance for your hormones.

There is a current progesterone shortage hitting pharmacies, but don’t panic. Dr. Jen is breaking down exactly why this is happening and, more importantly, 4 actionable ways to navigate it so your hormone health doesn’t skip a beat.

What to do if your progesterone is out of stock:

* Check other pharmacies: Right now, the shortage seems heavily tied to specific major chains (a bit ironic for a certain pharmacy that recently dubbed itself the leader in menopause care... đź‘€). Try calling local independent pharmacies or different chains.
* Consider a Progestin: While bioidentical progesterone (like Prometrium) is the standard go-to, switching to a synthetic progestin temporarily might be an option.
* Try a Compounding Pharmacy: Compounding pharmacies source raw materials directly to create your capsules in-house. They rarely run out of stock and often offer great discounts on 90-day supplies!
* Look into Combo Oral Options: If you’re also feeling the squeeze from the estradiol patch shortage, switching to a combination oral option (estradiol + progestin) might be the smooth pivot you need.

If you’re running low, reach out to your healthcare provider to discuss which alternative makes the most sense for your body and your health
