The lactation world continues to take hit after hit with ongoing reductions in insurance coverage and reimbursement for lactation care ….most recently impacting many families with UnitedHealthcare plans.
These decisions don’t just affect providers. They affect families.
Less coverage means:
• less access to skilled feeding support
• fewer lactation visits available to families
• reduced support for breastfeeding, pumping, and bottlefeeding parents
• delayed intervention for feeding challenges
• and continued lowering of the standard of maternal and infant care
IBCLCs are highly trained healthcare professionals who help families navigate complex feeding, medical, emotional, and logistical challenges every single day.
Yet the expertise they bring to the table continues to be undervalued, undermined, and treated as optional instead of essential.
Are you not angry yet? Because I sure am.
